what does purple rep mean?

They are actually gray, they denote zero effect on rep.

Green = Points given
Grey = Neutral (Points neither given or taken)
Red = Points taken

nah, the higher your rep, the more influence you have on other peoples when you leave rep and vice versa. i have 131 rep points, there's no way that 131 people have given me rep

As levy said, it depends what their rep is. If someone is roadkill, they dont have any influence on your rep, even if they neg rep you.

As levy said, it depends what their rep is. If someone is roadkill, they dont have any influence on your rep, even if they neg rep you.

Correct. I'd say mods/admin are set to a maximum of 10 rep points whereas users can go higher. Example is, Minux has 800-odd rep points but only has a power of 10 and Greenfoam has 379 points and currently gives 16 points. Negative rep is half of your positive score.
