server issues

hey guys

ive been having alot of prpblems with JC. keep getting error messages when i click links or refresh about the server or something. this is the second time ive had to write this because of that issue.

not sure if its something my end or JC end.

i was having "server has timed out errors" and then i got a few database errors as well earlier.

seems to be a bit better now however.

Hey Guys, it's certainly not your end.

I was receiving a few db errors letting me know too many connections were being used so I increased it, come yesterday arvo / night it seems all hell broke loose so I have reverted the setting back as it made getting into the server to restart MySQL impossible ie it sat there at the login screen for 5 minutes plus.

Unfortunately I can't see a huge amount in the logs that's of any use.

I'll monitor it and see how we go, sounds like a bit of MySQL tweaking might be required.

I've made a few changes this morning and performed a few 'recommendations', unfortunately we won't know whether this has improved the situation until tonight when the load picks up which from what I can see is the only time the problems crop up.

Just curious whether anyone has had any issue's the past couple of nights since the changes were made?

I haven't seen a single email relating the database errors, tonight will be another good test as for some reason Monday's and Tuesday's on average are the busiest times on JC.

I've had a few Timeout errors this afternoon, I had about 3 in the space of an hour. It seemed to happen when trying to open pics linked via thumbnail in posts... I don't know if thats related to the timeouts, or just coinsidence.

That's great to hear A few changes had been made to the amount of memory available to MySQL as well as the number of connections. I guess from here I will let it be and we'll see how everything goes, I still have a couple of other changes I could implement but I don't really want to go overboard in the case something goes pear shaped.

I suspect this might be another issue whether it be provider related or another cause, looking at the graphs over the past week there's quite a clear picture where the bandwidth has dropped right off which coincides with the db errors and emails from monitoring advising of timeout issue's, I haven't seen any of these since last Friday.
