Reputation Points?

I've just sorta been looking through my profile a little more today since i decided upon a slack one, and these reputation points,
what is the reason behind them?
is there any advantage to getting more?
and how do i gain them? cos i noticed it showed a couple of my posts to me that gained them and i really couldn't see anything ground-breaking in them especially since i mainly cruise the pub and humour sections of the forum

Honestly I don't think they mean anything.

They are meant to be there so somebody comes along and reads your posts, and if you've got good feedback then they believe yeah.. He's got a good rep, he knows his stuff. Thats basically it.

I don't take any notice of it, I take notice of what I read, not a little green bar.

but as you probably realise i know jack all about commies, i live in the pub and humour section yet ive gathered 3 rep points in the last 2 days. I just noticed when i went to change stuff on my profile

If you get lots of them I think you get more green boxes next to your posts

i mean, i got a negative because i must of offended some guy because i didn't like his dress..

Now that wouldn't have been VSute would it? cos hes the only one i know of that has been that feminine

So its the mods who give them out is it?

rep points are mainly there as a encurougement to new members, if they see someone with a good rep, then they will tend not to argue the point with that member

Thanks bextor, julie and (sir) garth thats really answered my question, i wasn't really concerned intruiged cos i would have thought it would have only come from the commie section of the site, which i almost never go to
