Ive noticed alot of closed threads lately.
Some of these closures have obvious reason, but others just seem to end up closed or deleted. Now i have reviewed the 'rules of engagement' and the threads in question are not breaking any rules.
I dont know why there is a sudden influx of closed threads , but i think maybe we are entitled to know why they are closed so we dont start the 'wrong' threads again.
I also think it is fair to allow threads to continue, because they may not become a problem. Im all for being proactive but i think the fun is being zapped out of JC quite rapidly.
Mayby the rules of engagement need to be amended to include whatever hidden rules are being broken here.
Please let us continue to enjoy our pub without confusing rules.

Every time someone who doesn't like the thread/post clicks on one of those, emails get sent, telephones ring, to all us Mods & Admin....you must remember, this is a Car Forum......we have a few Police as valued Members, and the Police cruise these Forums all the time anyway........and we are trying NOT to drag this Forum down to the levels of soooo many others......appreciate your input though mate....Cheers...Rat.
I agree didn't see anything highly breaking the rules but I guess the individual who locked them (don't think it's wise to say who) had their reasons
i appreciate that old man rat, and the rules of engagement state that. they say nothing about some of the more enjoyable 'game' type threads that are being closed. is it possible for mods to at very least post a final message in the threads which are being locked, stating why they have been closed, then start looking to have these reasons addded to the engagement agreement?
Julie does this very well, we always know why a thread has been closed. maybe a 'mod training day' needs to be considered (lol) to get some consistancy accross the forum.
yeah certainly not worth pointing fingers. i know some mods were even enjoying the threads in question as well. its a matter of members knowing why things come to a grinding halt - far more proactive if there is a reason noted.
Hey it wasn't a mod who locked them, put it like that.. I for one always state why and send the author a PM explaining clearly.. also agree it was bringing the level of the pub off a bit, if we had an Off Topic forum underneith the pub for all this stuff I get the feeling nothing would be locked
yeah i think your right. i doubt id visit and off topic bit as much lol. i dont understand how can it not be mods? is there another god?
There is a God above us..()....I usually put up a reason why I close a thread, and send a message to the person/people involved......but sometimes it is a bit fast in here, trying to watch everything.......

i agree that whoever closes a thread should have the guts to state the reason why.
i must have missed something
i thought the pub was for this type of thing
why was the word association game not closed also
i suspect because it was started by a mod
i suspected the same thing at first but after what the guys have said above it makes sence that it wasnt for that reason,
it still doesnt explain why the word game is open and the others arent. unless this "god" cant close mod threads? that would make sence...
Not a matter of "Not having the guts to state why"...more a matter of sooo many posts...having the time...most of the time I message the people concerned......and we get some people that are just offensive in their nature in here...they screw it up for everyone...and sure the "Pub" is for these sorts of things, but after a while...sooo many pretty useless threads.....so, sorry if I offended anyone by not giving an essay on "Why I Closed This".....loool....Originally Posted by beckrey
The word game etc are still going, because they haven't caused anybody any grief........don't worry, I quite enjoy some of these game threads too......
Nothing to do with me being a mod, word game had about 500 posts when I was promoted to a moderator so don't give me that moderator thread is special crap, if it got out of hand I would close it in a second. There's also a song naming game not made by me which hasn't been closed, how do you explain that smarty pants! This member came in and created 5 games in less than 2 hours (apparently kicked from other boards for this), now 2 games which have been going for ages is good but seven is just cluttering up The Pub if you ask me. Sorry but that's how it is
Edit: Mods and Admins can close and delete my threads just like anyone elses.
Well I didn't close the threads but I agree with them being closed at the moment. Personally I think while there is nothing 'wrong' with these threads its just a case of too much too soon. One or two game type thread in the pubs is but when the pub is turned from a general chit chat thread to a games thread then I think its gone too far.
Maybe these games threads can be reopened at a later date but I think the pub has met this weeks quota of spam games. It was overkill before and we were getting numerous complaints. Maybe this could serve as encouragement for some of our newer non technical forum posters to take a stroll out of the pub and make contributions in our other forums.
There is nothing sinister about the thread closure and no one is trying to hide the fact they did it, I suspect as rat said the admin/mod who closed the thread was either too busy to worry about providing an explanation for each threads closure. The last couple of weeks have been hectic here on the moderating side, even with adding 3 new mods we are busier than ever.
Also regarding the rules of engagement it says that they are some "common rules". So just because something doesn't appear in there doesn't mean it your thread won't be deleted/closed. They are guidelines not a complete set of rules and threads will always be closed/deleted at admin/mods discretion. After all we do need to have some control over the content in here. Seriously someone could come in here and make 100 posts about ingrown toenails and belly button fluff and just because it doesn't spefically say not to in the rules doesn't mean we are going to allow it.

You were getting complaints...? What, so people were saying, I dont like reading threads in The Pub section of JC?Originally Posted by Julie

Seriously, things like this really tick me off.
Lets be resonable - Why not just remove the entire Pub thread becuase a few people don't like it.
Crikey.
By the way.
I am not against the removal of illegal stuff.
Just the removal of what you consider spam.
.yes mate...quite a few..........and when I get woken up in the middle of the night because of some drunk school kid in the forum mouthing off...........Originally Posted by Indy_387

Mate we were getting complaints, many more complaints about the threads than those few of you here complaining here about their closure.Originally Posted by Indy_387
This is just my personal opinion, as a member not a mod......
You don't need to tell me its entitled the pub, but think about it, what do people generally go to the pub to do? Drink, relax with mates, tell a few yarns..........not play one word game after another.
I think admin are very reasonable in even having the pub not all forums do have an off topic subforum. And as for no one holding a gun to peoples head to read it, well prior to these threads closure you had to scroll through half a page of game threads to get to something decent. Its not like these type of threads have been banned all together they have just been reduced. Hows that saying go.. all good things in moderation... or something like that.
I reckon these threads in question were closed because a certain member (not to be named but you all probably know who he/she is) started the vast majority of them. I have also noticed some people (also not to be named) make subtle suggestions/complaints about the threads and the author got slightly shitty and (for example) called one of the complaining members a dick. I am also a victim of abuse just from a harmless little joke. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
EDIT: Thanks to whoever gave me good rep points for that...

Indy_387 let me put it to ya this way
2 day's ago i logged onto my pc, and i had 37 personal messages on my pc, sweet i thought, well, guess what, not one of them was a nice personal message, each and every single one was someone complaining about a range of things, (believe it or not, one was about my spelling)
now, you gotta see it from my point of view, it's all fun to start maybe 1 or 2 posts up in the pub section, which has nothing relating to cars, yeah, i can handle that, but seriously, not 5.
no matter what we do on this forum, someone is always' gonna be unhappy about a desision made by either the mods, or myself or darren. well there is a re-dress thing im about to start work on, and i will be doing a mass email very very soon, in regards to this.
but basicaly, what i have closed stays closed, what i have removed, stays removed, and what i have deleted, it's gonna stay deleted. things dont actualy get deleted, they get moved to a section you guy's can't see, got sick of plain removing them, so we move them, which reminds me, there are 194 threads in that section, and it's only been around for 6 months.
if you or anyone feels they have been hard dealt by with this, email admin@justcommodores.com.au so darren and myself can slug it out with this matter, you need to make it formal, no good pm'ing darren or myself, it needs to be in a email, so we can action it
until then, those threads will stay closed
cheers
garth
spelling is getting a bit better, Garth !!!! Hardly had to correct anything !!!!

All I can say is that in my books there is a fine line between straying slightly off course, and making our way into what should be in some 13 year old neopet online forum.
I've already expressed my views to Rat, I believe the setup that works.
Is the setup that seperates the fun and games from the information.
Have two different types of members. Paying and non paying. Paying earns the right to 'the Pub' type sections. Where all of the people that don't pay- only get access to information about cars.
As how it is now, I'm not sure who pays the bills, but for the amount of bandwith that gets used here, especially with the 10 thousand members we have now. Would be starting to get a bit large. A small membership fee to access these threads, that unnecessarily chew threw bandwith - would help counter/ pay for the site.
I'm a member of a similar forum that uses this type of setup, and I gladly pay membership each year.
Just a suggestion for you all.
