I just read on here where a guy has posted up asking a pretty common question, and one of the "so-called" moderators made a smart ass comment that was absolutely no help to this guy,and then he's closed the thread on him. This poor guys question was no different from the thousands of other questions about exhausts or getting a 6 cylinder to go a bit better or any other common question..If they are gonna close threads for common questions like this, then they may as well just close all threads and shut down the website. What a joke.
Yeah I saw that one. In defense to the mods that topic has been done to death so I can kinda see where theyre coming from. In general I dont like threads being deleted. If its a dumb question people will just ignore it and it will be miles down the page and forgotten about in no time at all
i see both sides... its the same usual crap and mods plus everyone else gets sick of seeing it, yet i also see the side of somone asking a question on a forum who has no idea how a forum works, hell when i first joined JC i had no idea how many times a certain question had been asked and that i should have used the search function...
some people just need a little patience, and if they cant handle it make somone else a mod
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Yeah, thats the thing,ALL the common questions have been "done to death".The website is here for all commodore owners to use, this includes people who for whatever reason, dont know much about cars, but want to learn something, and they should be able to ask their questions here, even if it has been asked before a heap of times. And even when they use the search, if they post up an old thread, they get shot down in flames for digging up and posting in old threads,so what are people supposed to so?Thats why I have said something about it.
yeah ive seen that quite a few times, digging up an old thread, spose its a case of dammed if you do, dammed if you dont
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Good point walesy, either get flamed for a thread dig or get flamed for asking a question thats been asked before. It seems the young kiddies coming through cant win
FFS - there are already (eleventy hundred) posts on this topic.
Lol that Mod is a bit stupid. what kind of response is that all he did was ask something who cares if its been asked (eleventy hundred) time's this is what the website is for to ask question's and get REAL answers not shit like FFS - (eleventy hundred) it's not even a bloody number if we couldn't ask question's on here then i would still be asking what the hell an engine mount is and because i have asked so many question's i have learnt how to do stuff from (how to take a gas tank out with out it blowing up lol) to changing the fuel pump to changing the manifold gaskets to heaps of other stuff so i think every body has a right to ask question's even if they sound silly. that's my 2 cent's worth anyway.
Search for what you want. If it's been covered before, you'll find an answer.
We dont need to know that your indicators stopped working while you were driving round to Habbibs house to take his sister for kebab. Use the forum as a knowledge base and you'll be fine. I agree with locking threads that cover common questions. Use the ####ing search function and leave the space free for a unique question or situation.

I am sure i could get a cup for ya.
Being a Moderator myself on another forum that’s not related to cars...
My two options are to explain why I am about to lock a thread in a polite manner or just lock it and say nothing.
My point is, it does not hurt to be polite in such things.
I think it could of been handled better. Perhaps a link to a topic related to the question asked, then locking it.
1. post in the right section. there is a site feedback section for a reason. the vr/vs technical section is NOT it. youve been a member here long enough, surely you should have it worked out by now.
2. there is a report post button that everyone can use, if you dont like a decision a moderator has made, use the button. it will be directed to all mods/admin. if admin feel it was a bad decision, theyll rectify it.
if some one digs a thread with a useless post, flame on. if they dig with a question on the same line as the thread, there should be no one flaming them. if there is, use the report post button. we cant stop it if we dont see it.
im sure darren can pipe in with traffic numbers to reflect that we must be doing something right, theres plenty of people coming back every day.
This is a Commodore forum and people here love Commodores. I don't think people are here because of anything you or any other mods do
Here's probably a good example of a moderator getting a little carried away.
This should be illegal!!!!!!!

I got shot for digging up a 5month old thread wen I first joined and I had a genuine question.
Made me laugh so hard.![]()

Yeah because we all know how useful threads pointing out incorrect badging etc are.
The thread was going absolutely nowhere because the guy was just flat out wrong.
But thanks for letting me know I am a bit over zealous with the close button. If someone calls you a kiddy fiddler or you post something incorrect, Ill let the good times roll?
On the topic of thread digging/repeated posts. Im unsure what the thread in question is, Ill have to check the VR/S forum, howevever if it was a "what exhaust should I put on my v6. I want it to sound like a v8!!" or something along those lines, I would've closed it to. Its been done to death, its been answered numerous times, the OP is only going to receive a barrage of "SEARCH FFS!" or "Get a V8" answers and IMO its more important for new members to learn how to search and save themselves feeling unwelcome by people who have seen to many of those threads and cant be bothered answering. Fact is we cant be there to baby them and delete the unwanted answers - more so if noone reports (I know I dont ever visit the VN - P section for example).
Im all for thread digging, if that thread has an answer to a question or you are adding a LEGITIMATE question or answer to the thread. Dont dig a thread to quote a post from 3 years ago saying something about how you know someones cousin who lives across the road from your nan who had this problem.

No, I didn't mention the word "everyone" at all.
It was a suggestion for improvement, if the moderator saw it as a silly question they could check the users profile and how long they have been a member for as sometimes newbies aren't that familiar with forums.
And not "every" question posted is silly so a mod won't need to check "everyones" history.
I apologize if I wasn't clear in my first reply to this post in terms of describing my suggestion.
Cheers.
