Hi mods,
Had an idea about a forum auction. I wanted to sell a set of side skirts, was thinking of doing some sort of auction in the thread where they are at $0.00 and members who are interested put a bid up and if someone else wants them they put a higher bid in and at the end of say a week the last post wins?
Is that possible, any suggestions or straight up NO..
Thanks
Ben

Couldn't you just put it on ebay then have a for sale thread with the link lol?

Could... Thought JC members may be more interested.

Trying to dodge eBay fee's eyyyyy
I like the idea....
Lol nah the fees for a 0.00 start are like 49c plus like $1 for pics..
Just seemed like a good idea..

I reckon the hardest part would be people that just bid and then dont want to pay.. Then you have to keep chasing up everyone that bidded before, and then you end up with only 1 serious bidder (everyone else didn't bid cause the bloke who thought he had money but didnt bid way too high) who ends up paying half the value of the item..
The issue is from a legal persepective. At the moment JCCC is not actually involved in the SELLING process.
As in we facititate an environment where people can sell, but the sale itself is between 2 individuals independent of the site itself.
If we had an ebay type auctions system, then there would be various liability and control issues that I doubt JCCC would want to take on.
That's my opinion anyway.
Plus we would have to implement the "JC auction lol" section......
Seriously though, Jest is right as in the big picture/technicality stuff plus as VKC commented when things go pear shaped with the auction it will open up a can of whiparse.
I don't see why you couldn't just put up a regular sale thread and ask for offers, posting the highest one each time and saying that highest offer gets the item on whatever date. It's a bit of stuffing around on your behalf, but if that's the way you want to handle the sale of your item I have no objections. Just keep in mind you are solely responsible for the outcome.
Doesn't it stipulate in the rules that a price must be given and not to say "make an offer" Troy?
Edit: I'd rather not hassle any of you guys with any legal crap so I think I'll just let this idea slide to the back of my brain.. Not like I was set on doing it, Just thought it would get people more involved if there was a few items like this...

The rule is a "rough idea" has to be listed.
It would be a lot of ####ing about to get this up. The major thing I can see is the time of when the auction closes, unless we can set up a thread and have it automatically close at a certain time like polls do.
Im guessing the first option there Azk..
This I think would be a top idea, it's certainly something I would consider, just need to establish how to approach it both legally and going about setting it up. It could very well turn into a nightmare but hey you never know if you don't try it.
I haven't looked for ages but previously there was a stack of closed threads without I guess a sale so putting it to auction could very well be worth while should the existing method not work.
Edit: Just having a quick look this looks rather interesting http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=267194
