Too Many Bogus Users!

I think that preventing unregistered members from viewing pictures encourages people to create a username, see what they want, and then abandon it. Perhaps a system where you must log in at least once every 7 days for the first two weeks, else login be cancelled.

Thoughts anyone?

I don't think its really a problem. I think I read somewhere that Darren is going to do a mass cull of inactive non posting members sometime pretty soon. That should get rid of the dead wood so to speak

That's the reason I originally joined this board, to view a picture and I saw the useful stuff and used my login more and more and look at me now

The 7 day thing wouldn't be good for me. I can only get on here randomly when i'm not working or out cruising, don't have as much time on the computer as i used to!

nah I just meant the 7 day requirement only for the first 2 weeks or something similar to make sure that users who sign up just to view a photo and never return don't stay on here... and no posting required, just logging in

but if theres a regular clean out i suppose it doesn't matter

Doubtful. I think it's a good idea, but you'll find the admin like having a large number of members (even though majority of them are not active).

Active members outweigh registered users. Unless you can get the active member figure you cannot accurately say xxx is more popular than xxx.

Just to prevent any confusion, as follows is how I've done the cull's previously.

I generate a list of members who haven't visited the site in 6 months or more, fire them off an email and delete those who a) bounce back b) if no response is given within 2 weeks they then get the chop.

This by far is the fairest way and fairly straight forward in my book, at this stage I will attempt to do this once every month or a couple of months and will normally happen Friday night / Saturday morning.

yeah people that dont log in for 6 months have probabley wanted to change their username name and just made a new one... how do you change your name?

Ask one of your friendly nieghbourhood mods to change it for you it is that easy.

As Marz said, we Mods can easily change it for you...or you can go into your user profile & change it yourself....
