closing the lounge

im sure quite a few people are confused about shounaks lounge being closed. im just wondering what kinds of complaints you received about it?

As Garth said, you want to chat to each other, use a chat client.

The idea of a forum is to discuss topics, not have inane dribble just for the sake of it.

yeah that wasnt my question. i was asking what complaints were received about it.

of course it was a pointless thread, thats why it was there. hell, thats why the pub itself is there. its better to have all the random posts in one controlled thread than to have them all over the board.

How many threads were polluted with random thread in the time the lounge was open? It'll be zero.

The Lounge did nobody any harm either, if you didn't like it or thought it was pointless, you could just ignore it.. No-one had to open it up..

It had no effect on the post counts of members and it contained all the crap very well..

What the hell was wrong with it??

If people have no say, then why did messages sent from MEMBERS cause the thread to be closed..

Garth had no personal problems with the thread being open, he closed it because of complaints he received from members.

So members DO have a say in what should stay open or closed..

That's why people think they have a say.. Fair enough?

Anyway, this section of the forum is for Site Feedback/Site Problems. I'm just giving my personal feedback about a decision that was made. It's not breaking any rules and if you don't like, just ignore it.. It's really not that hard..

ill give you 2 options

1. it opens up, it's moderated like the rest of the forum, we have let it slide for now, but if it opens ill be personaly checking that topic each day, if a post is removed i will not give a reason why, and it will not be questioned, it's acepted

2. you move it to chat, the forum rules dont apply to chat, well they sorta do, but no where near what the forum rules are.

unfortunatly im unable to comment on the pm's about the complaints. im happy if it stays open, or closed either way im not fused. the choice is yours.

but be warned, if it is moderated, ill be watching it very closely, and if i close it again, it will remain closed, no iff's no buts no 2 way's about it

the choice is up to you, make a informed one. personaly id be going chat, why dont you all setup a time or something to use that all at the one time?

i think people prefer the lounge because
-they dont need to sign up to another website
-they can post anything they want, even when there is noone else in the room, someone will read it eventually
-its easier to see what conversations have taken place while you have not been there

it would help if we knew what complaints there were, so that they wont be repeated in the future

What does this mean exactly?

That we have to follow the forum rules whilst using the lounge? Ie. Offensive material, spamming, etc?

If that's what you mean then that's fine with me. I wasn't aware of anyone breaking the forum rules in a big way whilst using the lounge..

If the posts don't count and the content abides by JC rules, I don't see a problem with it..

im currently toying with the idea of making a seperate forum for you guy's, a user choice one, it has been mentioned by one of the mods in a differnent topic and i do like the idea

it will be like a little chat think like the shonouk lounge (dont kill me if i spelt it wrong)
posts wont count in any way, uploading of attatchments may still happen, not sure about that
usual forum rules will apply, how ever it will have a stick for different rules, i.e. no fighting, no name calling things like that, to try and protect the younger members. ill have a play in the morning with the idea, give it a run, pass it by the other guy's and see what they all think. if you leave it with me for a day or 2 ill see if i can come up with some sort of a middle ground for this type of thing.

I didn't see a problem with one thread dedicated to people chatting though. It was just one thread which, if it didn't interest you, you didn't have to click..

Simple as that.. So it provides 0 negatives to you..

But quite a few positives to the people who used it..

So it made some people better off without anyone being any worse off.. The best possible outcome..

But good on Garth for this other idea.. It sounds promising.. A good gesture from him..

Negative, it was unmodderated crap. As much as I can see the positives aswell, this sort of thing wouldn't be tollerated on any other site.
Hopefully Garths plan comes together.
