For those of us lucky enough to be running Mozilla/Firefox (and there are a lot of us now), you may have seen a little feature called Live Bookmarks. Simply, it will access information stream you can let your browser access every time it is opened and it will add bookmarks to your bookmarks folder, under the folder of the particular site.
This would be a great addition to JC. It could be linked to the getnew threads, so that all the active topics would appear under the JC Folder, along with a static forum link maybe. It is as easy to use as clicking Bookmarks, Just Commodores and the links would be displayed there.
To see a site working in full motion (the only browsers I am aware of that can access Live Bookmarks are Firefox 1.0PR and maybe some Mozilla versions), go to Slashdot and have a look at the bottom right of your screen, there is a little orange RSS button, click it, click subscribe, click add to Bookmarks. Then have a look in your Bookmarks folder, there will be a Slashdot folder (probably at the very bottom) and within it will be all the most recent news articles, which will change with the news. This can be deleted as can any other bookmark.

Used this before....sometimes it creates a heap of book marks depending on what is chosen.....would it be useful for this sort of site?
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
I use RSS sites in trillian (chat program, uses mirc/icq/irc/yahoo clients) and its useful for news sites such as google news(Australia), the register and slashdot. But for a site that doesn't update daily, what info would be on the RSS scripts?

Sorry to drag this old thread up but I'm just letting you know the RSS feed is now liveWell has been for a number of days whilst I've been doing some tests.
Software wise I believe Mozilla does it by default with an extension ie Sage.
There is a swag of software out there which can do it, although I'll put down the one's which I've used without any problems.
SharpReader - Windows XP
Straw - Linux (Gnome)
To access the feed you'll need to simply enter
http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/....php?type=rss2
Lets say you wanted a certain forum or forums such as VN - VP Commodore & Car Audio you would use something like
http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...2&forumids=9,5
From there you'll get the latest threads right to your desktop.
Now for those who have nfi what this thread is about here's a brief copy and paste job from the RSS site:
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for your site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.
Swoit! Nice work, thanks champ![]()

I just noticed the icon and I was thinking "that was never there before... Oh look, an RSS thread!"
I don't use it though![]()
