Default I think I figured out how to fix this broken thing on JC!

    Hey mods/admins/cleaners/fellow JCers

For a while I've been trying to work out how to get any kind of external image to work, either for an avatar or for a signature (like xfire, L33Tsig, Jsig, last.fm or the other various dynamic signatures), for an example of what I'm on about check bottom of this post.

Whenever I tried or got a moderator to try to help me we would get the error message "Invalid URL" even though the URL was completely valid. Tonight I got so annoyed I did a lot of research and turned up something which might help to fix this!

Apparently to fix this what we need is in the root of the forum folder a new folder needs to be created called "tmp", and it needs to have full permissions (777 I think).. Darren I'm lookin' at you big boss guy, do we have this folder and does it have full writes? If it does then I'll keep looking!

(got this information from this thread)

Here's an example of what I mean:

This is the kind of image which has the content continuously changing in near-realtime and as a result it would be inefficient to keep uploading an updated version to the forums

If that doesn't work then I'm just going to give up

Could be something to do with how the images are served, the png is just a thing for some php code to generate the picture on the fly?
