As the title says, someone keeps using my email address to create new accounts on Just Commodores. I actually had the chance to see one of these usernames in action yesterday, and it was obvious that it was someone who was just looking to cause trouble. I don’t know if there is anything that you can do about it, but i have changed my email address to a different one, that very few people know, and have deleted my hotmail address from my profile. Thanks
I would have thought that there is a security feature that would stop multiple accounts with the same email address. I know I have tried to create a new account on other sites using the same email address and it says that that email address is already being used please use another one. (Not to cause sh!t, just because I had forgotten a password).
The account defiantly went through, as i witnessed some of the stuff the person was saying and his (or her) disrespect for moderators.
not sure how this works, but if you suspect someone is using your name then PM one of us as soon as you can.
How did you come to realise they are using your email to register? I thought it had to send you a verification email... if you don't respond to that you can't post. Thats how i thought it worked...
I got an email that said that they were successfully a member, there was no verification required. Below is the email I was sent yesterday.
As you can see verification was not necessary, which surprised me. Thanks for the help(Unsername),

If this person also knows your email account password then it is possible they read the email on the server and deleted it before it was checked and downloaded to your computer.
They havent got into my email because i was on msn at the time, and as soon as i was told that i had a new email from just commodores i checked it out. I am 100% sure that no one know my email password because it was changed on wendsday. Verifacation obviously was not required.
Just as an experiment, I created a new account using my existing email address and it worked. You are right, there is no activation email, just a confirmation email welcoming you to the forum. Whichever mod reads this, is there something that can be done? Also please delete the user Abba_1968 as I just created it to see if it worked.
Im not sure but isnt there a function for blocking IP adresses or restricting IP adresses to one account only.
abba- done, thanks for checking that.
bill i ran your IP and there appears to be stacks of users using the same one, also stacks of different post IPs for your name. I don't know much about these but someone might tell me they are dynamic IPs and change all the time.
Might be wrong but from what i see we cant do much about your IP addy.
Yer i have a dynamic IP, there goes that idea. Thanks for trying tho![]()
Mine goes through a router so it is static. Well the IP that the net sees anyway.
I remember Darren mentioning that he did not want email verification enabled because it made it too much of a pain for new members, but this potential problem might require consideration.

Maybe just put in a script that reads the email address of a new member and prohibits it's use if it already exists on the site.
That would work, but what is stopping someone from making another hotmail, yahoo account. My biggest problem with what happened to me was that the mods might of thought that it was me causing the trouble, or see that my email was used multiple times, therefore coming to the conclusion that I had multiple accounts. No matter what is done there will always be trouble makers and there will always be a way for them to get through. Thanks for the help everyone![]()
Email validation is a possibility but unfortunately thanks to spammers and spam software running on mail servers not everyone gets them hence why I dropped it a very long time ago.
Should this type of thing happen again just drop a PM to a mod / admin and we'll fix it up.
But wouldn't that solve your problem? If another email address is used, the mods know it isn't you.
I meant verifying a new email address for the new member. Not sending an email validation request. If you could check that each member has a unique email address and knock back new applications with an address that already exists on the forum.
