Victorian Cruise Section.

First of all, Im not here to abuse nor insult any particular Moderators or Admins of this website, Im simply posting to raise a concern that I am having.

As some may be aware the Victoria Chapter has had its share of issues in THE PAST since then the chapter has come a long way in cleaning up its act and becoming an extremely active part of this website. We have a totally new group of members, new "leaders" and we enjoy meeting up.

In the past few months I get the impression that we (the Victorian Chapter) are being singled out and punished for mistakes made by other people in the past. Over moderation is one of the concerns i have, with everything we do being nitpicked down to the finest detail. Nitpicked down to the point where, the slightest slip up comes with the threat of closing us down.

Since i first went on a Victoria cruise last year I have been trying to organise things for us to do and I would like to think ive helped it become a lot more active, Its extremely frustrating comming to this forum and reading that something I as well as others have helped create will be shut down for something minor, and I as well as others believe we are being punished for past deeds.

We are well behaved, we have a very good repore with the local police (at our weekly mini meet) and we have a lot of fun and bring something to this forum.

Im asking for you to give us a break.

Grennan, from all reports I hear, most of the guys are heading off to a rival forum, which is understandable. Some actions of late have got on the backs of a few people.

Considering this is a site for Adults, not sure what car enthusiast site caters for children given that most people that are here are licensed it seems very "childish" in the way some things are done.

I have raised my concerns personally to Darren, I just hope some action is taken before we lose another bunch of members to that other site.

Thanks for raising your concerns bud. I for one will do all I can to keep the very fast growing Vic section here.

yeah it probably should, however,
previous experiance and topic's as this one have often turned nasty, with a mod/admin bashign thing happening, peopel have been removed from the forum in the past becasue of this. i like to consider my closing of it more a prevention of this happening again.

a more direct result would be better acheive if it was directly either pm'd to darren, myself or to dave, or a email to admin@justcommodores.com.au

Mate, up to 30 members are already looking at leaving and taking their cruise guys elsewhere. Do we really want that to happen?

Everytime a topic like this starts it gets shut down. Why cant posts just be removed that are direct attacks and let the members have their say for once?

As it is 6 or so have already decided to go and not come back.

This will be fairly short and sweet as I need to get ready for work.

I would like to think no particular user or section is moderated more than another section, this could be to do with volume, users in general or one of many other reasons.

If there is over moderation some proof would be good so we can at least stamp it out or take whatever action is required.

No section will be closed or killed off just because someone says so, I think it's safe to say each and everyone us at some point has those days where we wished we had stayed in bed and often say or do things that we regret.

I would have to agree with Garth though, previous experiences makes these threads an us vs them battle which gets ugly but we'll see how it goes.

Consider this re-opened but please keep it civil and to the point.

I have started chatting with Garth via PM in order to keep us on the issue at hand and like you said keep it civil and i think weve made some sort of ground

One of the issues we have had twice now i believe (in recent memory anyway) we have a member get banned for something, let it be swearing or what have you. We are quite a tight knit group as weve been seeing each other every week for the last 9 months, word spreads that hes banned and you know how things get, he was banned for this or that and things get a little heated and it all spills into the Victorian Chapter where we have a thread which is filled to the brim with us talking crap. Once that happens it becomes Mods vs Members issue.

Twice this has happened one of the comments made has been along the lines of "lets just shut this down" where they cite previous incidents with people no longer affiliated/very loosely affiliated with us. Which personally annoys me a lot (thats whats started this post)

I think perhaps one of the solutions could be that if infact a member is temporarily banned we could perhaps some sort of explanation posted so that atleast everyone knows he wasnt banned for the hell of it and everyone isnt jumping to conclusions which happens, then some hours later when its to late someone sees it and says "No youve got it wrong he was banned for this..."

One thing i also suggested to Garth is that perhaps a admin or mod could chat to me via msn or PM every saturday (the day after our weekly mini meet) and ask us how it went etc, just to touch base and reassure them that i have my group behaving well in public (which i believe i do).

Anyway thanks for the reply Darren, good to see we can chat about this, like ive been saying to Garth, minux and other mods, I really love the Vic Chapter, its fun planning stuff for these guys to do, then going out and either failing miserablly or having a blast, id hate to see it all wasted.

Just though i might pop something in here. A bunch of things have been hard deleted and someone has apparently played with some buttons they didn't know about so i'll take a stab.
I came on late the other night and moderated a post that wasn't in line with the forum rules. I made sure it was the minimum infraction because it wasn't an overly big issue.
The system then informed me that despite it being a minor issue it was the last point for this user which resulted in a ban- look at it like the demerit points, you can do lots of minor things and find yourself walking.

It was only a 24 hour ban, not biggy and started pretty late at night so i doubt it was a life or death situation.
Certainly not worth getting upset over.

Now i hear the member does wonderful things for the Vic cruise section. Im grateful for that as are others. When i issued the infraction nothing pops up to say that this member is any different to any other member.
I moderate based on what i see. I don't always see every post. I don't always think it is worth an infraction, but i certainly don't pick and choose based on the person.

I'm always only a PM away and willing to discuss things, but a 24 hour ban is hardly worth worrying about. It isn't the first one ever given, and wont be the last - but rest assured it isn't based on who the person is.

I apologise if i am confusing this issue with another situation but like i said a few strange things have happened and the paper trail isn't complete.

things are being changed, and that profanity filter is gonna be sent packing. well normal everyday cursive words will be ok,

the c word and f bomb are still going to be filtered, but rules will be relaxed. we are currently working ona new way we can look after this sort of issue.

so you can now use the word sh!t as much as you want, untill we remove it from the bypass filter, ofcourse there is the limit, it's just what youw ould usualy use in normal everyday convo.

but things will be changing. so watch this space.

Like i said in the rules at the time avoiding the filter isn't allowed. If it were a word here or there i would leave it, like i told the member his use was excessive.
As i stated before, i moderate what i see, i don't read every post, i don't go looking for things to moderate but if something catches my attention and i think it needs something done about it then something will be done.

I look forward to the overhaul. Should make moderation a little easier, maybe get questioned a little less. We do it for the members, it isn't to make life difficult.

That's ALL it said. You said nothing about what the infraction was for or anything like that. But it's all over and done with, i'm over it, everyone is relaxed, and i like the fact that Garth and Minux have actually listened to what some of us had to say. I just thought i'd post this for records sake.

I am glad it is water under the bridge. A PM should have been sent with the ban, I am unsure why you didn't get this as I have never had to deal with someone who had accumulated enough points to trigger a ban in the system.

It says in our system this was sent to you, I apologise that this didn't make it and i now understand why it hurt you so bad.

I now understand what you meant by this, i had been thinking "i DID give an explanation".
I am at a loss as to why it didn't make it to his inbox. It seems perhaps there is some blame in the system.

LOL, i wouldn't go so far as to say it hurt me. It didn't break my heart and make me cry or anything. But yeah i know what you mean. **** happens, we are all over it and moving on. So it's all good
