I think the time has come for JC users to express their opinions on certain moderators. Most of you are great, and do an awesome job, but there is one that just seems to do no work, give bad advice, and only moderate very few threads, one being his own.
certain moderator had a sook about a comment about his car and decided to leave me a warning. thats good moderating skills there
can we have a vote please, on whether certain mods are actually beneficial to the site, and if we can have them replaced with someone that will actually do the job well?

yeah well im annoyed. apparently being a mod means noone can criticise your car. apparently he can bag my car saying my chargers crap, and my cars slow, but i make a less than subtle comment, and im threatened with a banning and given an infraction.
no **** that. he can do the job properly or step down like people have done in the past

if it turns into a slanging match it will be closed
everyone can have their opinion but sometimes its best to do it threw the right channels and emails the boss of ya not happy or another mod
but i kwow what ya mean stocky
Im with mike on this one....
The mods are here to keep the site clean and provide great advice with cars.
To become a mod you (used) to have to provide a lot to the site and be a useful asset... now, you just have to be an arse and remove ANYTHING that doesnt fit with the mod nazi way.
The CSP issue is one thing... dealt with poorly... but the other thread i read with hightek... now, i love hightek..dont get me wrong... my site with them is up 99% and ive never had isues with em... top job. However... the crap where minux decided to remove all rights for people to comment, winge complain etc... thats bull ****... its a public forum..
if someone doesnt like the hosters then they can winge... thats their opinion... personally, it shouldnt be made public discussion... an outages should be posted in locked threads. simple. dont leave it open to begin with...
but over moderation is an issue on here...
I agree that mods should be peer elected... Everyone says that "this site is free, suck it up blah blah blah..." yeah wicked, but without the people the site is jsut that... a forum... a forum is made of members which need to be happy... which some arnt...
clearly.
aZk.
that hightek thread was getting a bit out of hand though. there were some valid comments, but the points had been made and it was obvious the only solution was gonna be more RAM on the server. not much our complaints could do about it. it did seem to get a few more people donating too which was a benefit of that thread. it was closed at a decent time

i agree with you stocky. Its time to vote out mods
id love a vote. some people need to be knocked down a peg or two. It would also be great to show some support to the mods that do help out often.
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Actually, the thread was out of hand, pointless and proved nothing. Everyone had a chance to have their say, they had it. If they wanted more of a say they can email Darren direct. Talking **** helps nothing. As for CSP, his case was handled EXACTLY the same way as it has in the past for other users. You are very quick to presume that certain mods remove certain things. I do not think you comprehend how many times us mods are accused of doing something that another mod has done. I am unsure of where over moderation is an issue, in fact if anything this entire site is UNDER moderated and a lot of stuff is left to run its course. I know of one of JC's rival sites in where half the slanging matches that take place here would result in bans.
Lastly, I did not remove the "publics" right to comment, I simply put a stop to a thread that was clearly pointless, I also gave the option of emailing the admin team direct, which really is no different to posting on here, only difference is we do not have to filter through threads of repetitive posts saying all the things we already know.
Put it to Darren, I can already tell you what he will say.
Some members need to be knocked down a peg or two, perhaps we could start a vote between us mods to ban some of the ones that we don't like?
Seriously, if any of you have issues, use the admin@ email.
If i see anymore personal attack directed at staff I wont just delete the post but ban the member also.
Consider this a warning to keeping this thread open.

some of the good mods lately thats i've noticed are minux, hakhawk, julie, doctor bob, vy_storm, Troy711 and airstrike... there the mods that have caught my attention helping out.. Darren the admin sexyness is still around too i spot him...
rvn355 definitely abuses his right with the moderator title..
we need a vote off or something.. census lol
and i have to admit i'm an asshole of a member.. people put up with me.. mods try, some really try an are able to help right away.. Others.. if its not there thread, not about them, they dont care in a way.

So far the dealing I've had have been fine...
i've been told off a few times for my language or being a douche. I've had arguements with mods in threads just as though they were a normal member and haven't been dispriminated against...
All that being said... maybe we should have annual mod elections... that would keep things fair and keep the mods from abusing their powers... though... going on the last election everyone participated in... that could increase fuel prices and interest rates...lol

Mike, as I said earlier, put it in an email to Darren. It does nothing to air grievances like this in public.

Moderators
In my opinion a moderator should have the following characteristics:
Fair
Firm
Friendly
Have an overall general knowledge of all motor issues related to 'Just Commodores'
Supervise each thread and comment rarely because most of the techincal issues he would have done or has already done and as such perhaps needs to let others comment with less experience.
A moderator should control run-away topics that hurt the image of 'Just Commodores'
A moderator should contribute but not dominate threads unless there is safety, dangerous practices or personal attacks on others.
He should moderate to ensure that all forum members may comment and feel welcome to comment.
Having said that, issues such as the pub or other miscellaneous threads they should be able to do what they want.
In general, newly appointed moderators are very keen to show their knowledge in all subjects but this enthuisiasm needs to be quenched.
We need to encourage moderators to stay in the forum because they as well as other members have a wealth of information and when the chips are down they will keep the forum going as well as giving help to genuine Commodore enthuisiasts.
The owner of the "Just Commodores" (Darren) should be the only person to select moderators.
Moderators should be selected by Darren due to their knowledge, personal attributes, rapport with the forum community and feedback from the community.
A few forum members personal development and life experiences may not have the same level or posess the 'peripheral vision of thought' that others do and for that reason, tolerance is required on both sides.
Good or bad feedback should be provided to Darren in an appropriate way by producing a detailed list of complaints as to what where and when.
Regardless of Darens involvement as the owner of the JC he has the capability to call on other moderators to assist in making a decision if a moderator needs guidance.
In conclusion, all moderators should be selected by JC and the forum make comment via email.
As with other forums, some of the members who have been here awhile may think they deserve the title of moderator.
There becomes emotional feelings such as anger towards the new or old moderators or common jealousy.
It's also very easy for members to network or gang-up on individual moderators and this "clicky" membership can rip apart a good forum.
So although we all may not agree with each other it maybe better to learn, have fun and not get to worried about day to day comments.
Generally, most of the 'heated' comments are forgotten with time.
Enjoy![]()

Can I also suggest the Rules of Engagement be either enforced or revised? I've had a read of it and it seems like as Minux said, we are undermoderated. I've seen people step out of line in the almost 3 months I've been a member here and it appears as though a lot of things just aren't noticed. So either relax these rules or enforce them. It maybe that these discresions are dealt with in private, and if so then I am cool with that.
Maybe there should be a section only visible to Moderators where they can discuss things and help each other out. I've found the mods here to be really helpful. Yeah sure there are some big personalities in here but you get at workplaces and community groups all the time. This is no different.

What training do Moderators get - this is for real.
If things are going off a bit and a moderator has lost his way a little, ie gets things wrong - do they get some training in how they do the job?
