Can't change avatar although it complies with rules

I have a 96x96 image weighing in at a mighty 4.64KB... but every time I try to set it as my avatar it says "unable to save image". Tried uploading the same pic from photobucket, same error message.

Am I doing something wrong?

I must have missed this, there were some issue's with permissions which had been resolved.
