Giving rep

I just tried to give some rep points to someone who has a Monaro reputation. When I clicked on the scales it said I need to share some rep around to other users before giving them to <insert user name> again.

Whats the reason for this? This person in my opinion deserved rep yet I can't give it.....do I have to send rep to 5 other users before giving it to the same person again or something?

I would think the purpose is fairy clear, to prevent users giving repeated rep to the same user in order to build reputation points.

12 or 24 hours is silly in my opinion as it does nothing to prevent that build up of reputation. If it was a small time period like that you might as well just not have it.

I don't think it is 10 users, it must be closer to 5.

Yep, best of all, if we find the rep isn't warranted, we will issue infractions for it. Especially those who think it is an anonymous abuse system.

In the past we have been pretty easy going about it, due to a few people wanting to abuse various freedoms, we will be cracking down on it.

No rep has been removed, you do not have enough "rep power" to leave points therefore it shows as a zero rep (neither positive or negative)

Sort of right, you need more to get more rep and a do a few other things to increase your power. Infractions are not connected to the rep system from memory.

I believe you must meet some minimum requirements before you can use the rep system, someone will hopefully jump in and remind me of what they are as they aren't quite visible to the naked eye.....

Interesting, doesn't show in the rep system. Can only assume the rep comes back once the infraction expires.

I've never been aware of this either. Members who aren't happy with rep need to be upstanding forum members and earn some rep! I'm at a bit of a loss but it obviously means a fair bit to some people lol.
