im getting ready to start painting my bodykit, bodykit consist of
1x ve front bar
1x vz rear bar
1x pair of ve side skirts
i need to know how much hardner and thinners i would need.
Im ordering the following in 2 pac
2lts of base coat 703h
2lts of clear coat
2lts of primer
how much hardner and thinners do i need to buy for each 2lts
First of all, what colour are you painting the car in? is it the car in your avatar?
Secondly, you say you are doing it in 2k, i am assuming solid? If so why are you buying clear?
Clear is 2:1 ratio so one litre of hardener will make up more than plenty for you. Thinners just buy a 2Lt tin. Base is just under 1:1 (around 75%) plus 10% for your clear coat.
the car is in my avatar its the vy commodore, 703h is the paint code and its called martini grey and its a metallic colour.when i rang up to order the paint i was told i would need to clear coat it hence thats why im buying the clear, i was also told its a group 3 colour. i was going to buy 2ltrs of each in case i bugger it up and need to re do it.i was qouted $385 for the following:
2ltr of basecoat 703h
4ltr of 2pack/basecoat thinner
2ltr of medium solid 2 pack clear
1ltr of fast hardener
2ltr of 2pack primer/filler
2x250ml primer/filler hardener
1ltr of primer/filler thinner
total $385 as a shop sale
is this a good price and am i getting everything i need to paint my bodykit or im i buying too much i was qouted $1200 at my local bodyshop for it to be painted
also what speed of hardner should i use slow medium or fast, im painting it at home no booth
Jesus theres nooooo way u will need that much base coat thats ludicrus
At 43 a wealth of info , but still heaps to learn
i litre would piss it in

you will need the following
1 litre of base coat (thats the colour)
1 litre of base coat reducer ( that is the technical name for thinners in 2pac) 1:1 is the ratio for basecoat , this will give you 2 litres of paint . Thats alot for wht you wanna do
1 litre of clear (thats heaps ) most clears will be needed to be thinned up to 30% to get them to flow properly , esspecialy seems how you are painting at home without sufficient air supply , the hardner for the clear if its 2:1 you will need 500ml
1 litre of primer filler is over kill , most run 4:1 so you will only need 100ml of hardner and add 10-15% reducer
if you are painting at home and not in a booth i would recommend a fast hardner as it will dry quicker giving you less shit in the paint
oh and you will need 1 litre of top coat reducer for the clear , primerfiller, and clean up ( you can get away with using GP thinners but it will affect the gloss slightly )

you could get away with 500mls of base
itll need a sand too. 400 and 800 to sand your hi-fill, 1000, 2000 for the clear. then buff. get it while you get your paint.
well thanks for all the replys i ordered the following in 2k
1lt of base metallic
1lt of clear
1lt of primer
1lt of hardner
2lt of thinners
all total it cost $257 delivered
being that beige colour, you will want to get your prep spot on as that sort of colour shows sanding marks and chips real bad. Bit of a shit colour to get looking right without it going all mottely as well, so just give the right amount of flash off between your coats.
