Default Help me choose engine alloytec cover paint color opinions required.

Had some extra caliper paint left over ( have a look at the link for pics My wl caprice l@@k) so I thought I'd put it to good use.

I'm going to be painting my engine covers soon.

I know a few people on hear have done it.

I would like to know if I need to sand down the surface so that it's smooth and can I spray the caliper paint directly onto the plastic after cleaning with metho?

Ok here are my engine covers that I'm going to paint.

    Below are my progress pictures,
I wana have abit of texture by using two colors.

Anything with masking tape will be RED and the black parts will be GLOSS BLACK.
Let me know what you guys think and any changes I should make???

    All inputs will be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Dave.

I'd change the red to chrome or at least silver to match the outside but i'm loving the idea of the 2 tone.

Considering it on mine but I'm planning silver (color match) and blue to match the track stripes I'm planning on getting done later

I didnt actually think of the chrome.
Red will suit my pin stripes.

Do I have to sand down the plastic on the covers first? Is that even possible?
I want a smooth surface result.

Well you can't really beat black and red it's a nice combo. as for sanding it couldn't hurt. you'll only need enough to score it, don't go to much or else you'll notice it going gloss. also wet and dry paper will be good or you'll get an oragne peel effect and sometime is can literally look like a backyard job

Ok so I have finally made some progress with painting my engine covers.
This is what Iv done so far.

Now Iv got to cover the red n spray the rest in gloss black then do other little parts in red.

I also sprayed my head unit facia frame in gloss black to match the black piano finish trim on the dash.

Well finally got the rest of it sprayed in the gloss black.

Now all Iv got to do is color the words "v6Alloytec190" in red and a few other parts as mentioned above.

Here are a few pics. Let me know what u think.

Definetly liking the look there! sets off the engine really well. maybe even paint the lion red too, chrome almost looks out of place. what did you use to sand it back? it'll give me something to do over the weekend

    Thanks bro
I just used metho to clean it very well then I used caliper paint to spray it.
You just have to be very patient with the coats u apply. Lol
And heat proof paint will cure with heat so what I did was before they were totally dry I put them on the engine and did my normal driving to cure the paint
    Good idea with the lion
What I had planned was to get a brush and paint the 4 lines going along the length of the manifold in red.

Thats looks mad, I'd do it for ventilation and looks if I knew how to get a clean cut match on both sides.

I had a look at it this at 6 this morning (taped it all up and drew all over it)... It can't be done to look exact the fluid bottle covers make it hard to do it. you can make them smaller to suit the passenger side cover but it will look really sh1t on the other side. I was even thinking of cutting out the alloytec symbol, putting a grill underneath, spraying the alloytec and sticking it on top.
