I am using my tax on a new exhaust, headers, dash lighting and a paint job.
The last part is what I need advice on, I am looking at respraying the entire car, I am either going Impulse Blue, as it currently is, or a very very dark metallic black.
Now the question is, should I get a 2pack or go acrylic? And any advice over which colour I should go would be good as well.
I will be getting it professionally sprayed so all I want is how good the finish will be.
2pac hands down.
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
2 pack
thats not even a question.
kinda like saying: "is black really black or is it white" you will get a few guys on here saying that black is actually white, but its not. its black.
Yeah but I was told that with Acrylic I can polish it up to an almost mirror like surface.
i had my old vl that was done in 2 pac look like that, its all in the prep job when doing a paint job.

You'd be struggling to find a workshop that still uses acrylic. Acrylic is really now only for backyarders who don't have access to a oven and booth.
and youll be doing that once a week with acrylic, theres a reason why car makers dont use it any more, cause it shits itself, and they be doing 500,000 warranty paint jobs a year.... i challenge you to find someone that will do it anyway... they probably laugh you out the door. just saying, plus you really want something on your car that can be wiped off with thinners on a rag?
dont sweat the petty... pet the sweaty...
Lol two pack for sure acrylic is what the dinosaurs used and it is shit don't do it in acrylic. I bet it was an older person that said acrylic can be buffed up really nice. Two pack doesn't need to be buffed to look good unless it is really old in which case you would only have to buff it a fraction of what you would if it was acrylic. Acrylic is a thing of the past and there is plenty of reasons for that!!!!
Acrylic can look great, I am one of the supporters. Check the quality of the spray on my ride.
However, there is no doubt that 2 pak is a longer lasting, better paint. If you were a backyarder, I'd say acrylic. Sorry ari666 lol we continue to disagree there ( by the way ari have you seen my bonnet yet? just a practice spray, straight off the gun)
If you are going to pay someone to do it though, there is no other way to go.. 2 pak.

you can make acryllic look like 2pak with polishing etcso thats not the question, the real question is what is a better quality one.
The answer is 2pak as it does last longer.. more expensive though

Not nessesarily true. I've seen neglected 2 PAC resprays look like garbage after 2 years. It all comes down to paint care and maintainence. I'm with dakster on this one, I to are a big supporter of acrylic. My last car I painted in clear over base coat acrylic and when I sold it 12 years later the only thing I had to touch up was a few stone chips on the front bar and it still had a glass like shine like it just came out of the spray booth. Doing a high quality acrylic job is by far not cheap. It's just acrylic is more labour intensive, that's why workshops very rarely use it (not because it's shit). It all comes down to productivity. Why would you spend double the time repairing the average joes family sedan when you don't have to. It all comes down to the mighty dollar.
2 pac , for sure, but depends on yor budget
Once its fully cured.. call it a month to be safe, but more like a week should be plenty..
If you soaked a rag in thinners, put it on your acrylic painted bonnet, parked it in the shed overnight, and came out to find a still damp rag on your bonnet... then yeah you will have damaged the paint. You will probably even be able to wipe some off with a rag.
You'd be a dick to do that though wouldn't you, unless you actually wanted the paint removed? The same could be said for paint stripper on a 2 pak paint job, its obvious there are some things you just dont do.
You cant just wipe the paint off with a rag dipped in thinners.
2pak is still a better choice if you are paying someone to do it though. It does need less maintenance, and acrylic will cost you a fortune due to the extra labour involved.
2 Pak for a workshop job.
Only use acrylic if you do it yourself as the amount of equipment you need for 2 Pak costs a bit. Also it's not exactly friendly to the environment.
I painted my last car in 1K paint, but still no where near as good as my brothers 2Pak paint job.
2 Pak seems to be a bit tougher and goes for longer without needing a polish.
Another vote for 2K.
