Hi all, I bogged up my rear quarter panel with some filler and primed it. Took it to the spray painters for a quote to spray metallic and clear and he said that they will IR it (infra red) to test the integrity of the filler under the primer.
Is this done to all such repairs? I've never heard of this before and have never tested my work previously.
I was wondering to what surface temperature the panel is heated to, I thought I might try it at home with a heatgun to see how it stands up. I have a temperature gun that I can use.
They're pulling your leg. They just don't want to so the job. Most painters won't paint someone else's repairs because they can't guarantee their workmanship.
You only infrared primer if you want to paint it soon after to prevent sink back they are full of shit they are just making you think that you shouldn't do shit yourself which is probably true no offense just that there is certain things that need to be done that people that aren't in the trade don't know but chances are it would be fine they just don't really want to do it invade
