looks like a good one Andrew, im sure its already been said but a belt driven compressor is usually better then the direct drive compressors, but that said the twin motors would go pretty well on that one, also looks like a good price for it. its up to you...lol
im using one of those supercheap (blackridge) compressors 45lt 2.5 hp combined with a 20 meter air hose inline, water trap and a workquip hvlp gun and i never run out of air and dont need to stop start the compressor goes flat out but keeps up happily with a hvlp gun. but the gun cost nearly as much as the compressor.
Yeah true well I'm looking at the compressor that i put a link up of seems really good to me and I'll also post some pics up of my car this Arvo.![]()
nothing wrong with overkilling your compressor. if you plan to use it for a long time then why no go 100ltr? i dont see a problem with it. i have a 90 ltr and am really happy with it.
but anyway, that last link you posted is pretty good10 amp so you can use it in a rental property without burning out the wiring and 14cfm. should be nice.
yeah looks like a good one. and im with you there Ari the bigger the better i would say.
here are some photos of the spray job

Sorry mate, i'm calling BS on that whole staement.
A 2.5hp with a 20 mtr hose with a HVLP will maybe give you 20PSI at the gun.
You lose 6 PSI per 10 foot of hose, so that's 36 PSI down just with ya hose, then you have the compressor.
2.5hp would mean a 12-15 CFM rating, now keep in mind if a manufacturer says it's 15 CFM you can bet ya left nut in real life it's more like 11 CFM. Then you have to work out the FAD (free air delivery) which is how much the compressor pumps freely. A 11 CFM works out to 311 (apprx) litres per minute.
So that means there's no way in hell your little 2.5hp 45lt compressor feeds enough air for 20 mtr hose and a HVLP gun.
My compressor in my shed(on the back wall) is a true 15 CFM and 150 lt and it just keeps up with my HVLPs.

Please remember when working c o b (clear over base) the finish of the rubbed down primer must be perfect or scratces will appear after you have applied your clear coat and you will have to rub down again apply base coat then clear.
I would also suggest to use acrylic paint if you are going to do this in a garage its cheaper, dries quick, easy to fix if you have problems and you'll find that age of car if repaired would be painted in acrylic.
When applying the base last few coates thin the paint and pattern spray to get an even and uniformed finish also some colour's may need solid colour to help coverage of the metallic........
Another Tip....When you are satisfied with your rubbing back of the primer wipe the panel with wax and grease remover leaving it wet and look at it at all angles to see if you missed any small dents or need to work more on your repairs...
mate bigger the compressor te better but if your spraying acrylic dosent matter what type you use as long you use size 2 tip and adjust the gun to suit i.e reduce fan, material and air no prob's and maybe thin your paint a bit more.....
Yeah I had a spray painter at my house the other day and I asked him for some tips on the compressor an thinning myPaint etc and he said the compressor I have is shit he would never use it to spray a car he would only use it for touch ups. And I showed him the compressor in the link above and he said still not the best compressor for spray painting but it would be allright for a home spray painter shit loads better then the one I have. Also looking at buying a new gun befor spraying my vl commodore any ideas guys lookin for a good one but not spending a thousand buckshaha
Bellicose so a shorter hose would be better to give more pressor? And you ahead looks like a good set up looks like you know your stuff![]()
Also picking up the vl tomorrow will upload some pics![]()
it painted a vk bonnet in acrylic fine i used metallic base with a clear topcoat i used a 1.8 tip ,rubbed it back afterwards and buffed it, came out ok who knows how it would go with 2 pack but for what i wanted to do it was great im no painter but i figured if it can handle a bonnet it could do the whole car probably not up to your standards but i was happy enough with the result.
I did my whole car with one of these. Its a pain in the butt, you have to stop and let the air catch up regularly, but it works. A better one would be nicer of course, but you can use pretty much anything if you are determined enough.
2HP direct drive, 21L tank, 95L / min air delivery.
I am not recommending this compressor, at least double the tank size for a start would be very useful, and I doubt this compressor will survive long, its working real hard.. just making the point that anything is possible if you want it to be.
A good tradesman never blames his tools, he just makes do with them until he can get better ones. I'm not even a tradesman, so if that attitude is good enough for them its good enough for me.
for the other lads. ps. andrew. to add pictures. go to the pic > right click on it > go properties. you will then find the image code which will look like this "http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4245/31329010150317597892778.jpg" take that line of text and add to the end of it. notice the little back slash on the last img box. thatll mean the pics display in full screen.
