    Default Rotor Paint

What do you guys think of this rotor paint job?

I'm a bit concerned that the paint isn't meant to go there.

    Looks neat

It should be fine as it will wear out the contact surface after a few applications of the brakes.

Just apply the brakes very slowly at low speeds because the paint melts and the pads stick on the roter.

    This is mine,

then after a few drives it was back to normal.

omfg.. is this thread really happening?

why didnt you just wipe the paint off while it was wet? you realise that its gonna destroy your pads now.

On your VN that's worth +20kw for red brakes.

Seriously though...WHY DID YOU PAINT THE CONTACT PART OF THE ROTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks mint. Too bad your pads will be rooted. But its all good if you cbf changing pads a week after painting rotors

Lmao some reactions are funny there ^^ lol.

But honestly guys I drive the car every day of the week short and long distances and the pads are still just as good and it's been about 5months now.
I have also had a look at the pads themselves and they are fine.

There was only a thin layer of spray that came on the contact surface which literally was gone after the brakes were applied about 10 times.

Now for those who ask why the contact surface, this is to end up with a clean result. What I mean is the pad doesn't cover the entire surface of the contact part of the roter.

The rust will still be partially present on the surface that the pad doesn't contact.

    Caliper_paint Op, don't stress. Lol
Just remember to apply the brakes very slowly to wear the paint off before u go for a drive on main rds.

The responses are well justified. You are doing something that severely compromises tyour braking system in the short term and then will keep having a negative effect on braking performance until you change pads or wear them down enough that the contaninated layer has been worn off.

Brakes work because of the friction of the rotor and the pad. You are introducing something that will pretty much permenetly contaminate both surfaces.

The paint will get into the porus surface of the rotor braking area and also into the surface of the pads. And it's not going to have a possible effect on either.

You also have to ask yourself how much of the paint particles have managed to move into the piston area's and moving components of teh caliper making them sticky and compromising operation.

Apart from the fact that going for a drive to remove the paint from the rotors is just asking for trouble, I would be changing pads asap.

Scratch that, I wouldn't be painting the barking surface of the rotors to start with.

I should have included more details in my original post. This is not my Commodore - I did not paint the rotors. I was out walking when I saw this and it didn't seem right to me - I grabbed a quick picture so I could check with someone who would know for sure (that's you guys). The driver of the car wasn't there at the time, but I've seen him driving around the neighborhood, he's just a young guy - probably his first car. Even if he was there, I'm not one to question another man's ability to maintain his own car without being damn certain that it's worth questioning him.

So like I said, I was concerned the paint wasn't meant to be on the contact surface of the rotor. I was considering mentioning it to the owner if the responses overwhelmingly suggested it was dangerous, but given only one reply said it was while others said it would reduce performance then I think I'll just mind my own business.
