hey fellas, over the past few months ive been slowly wet sanding a back a rear bumper to for my VR that i'm going to be painting. I have access to a both and all that kinda stuff so thats no worries, I'm just unsure what types of paints I should be buying.
The bumper was originally grey and I'm respraying it white so I've wet sanded all the old paint off with 360 grit paper and should finish sanding it with 600 over the weekend and hopefully get into the booth next week or so.
What are the first steps I need to do before laying color? Do I need to lay down a flexible primer or a plastic adhesion promoter? Or can I just high-fill prime it, sand it back then lay color and clear?
Thanks
if your back to a bare bar with no paint at all yes plastic primer then high fill primer.
I wouldnt bother rubbing it in 600 just prime over 320
process = plastic prime - highfill prime. rub back 320 then 800 if painting in basecoat or just rub in 400 if solid direct gloss.
once you have primer on the bar you do not need more plastic primer. only thing is if you rub through the highfill you may want to use a 1k etch primer to seal it back up before painting.
Thanks for your help mate, when you say solid direct gloss do you mean a 2pac paint? I'll be painting in 2pac.
2 pac is the type of paint rather than acrylic.
Direct gloss is just that straight from the gun gloss, hardener added to the colour.
Clear over Base is also 2 pac but rather colour, and then clear with the hardener.
Solid colours can be either DG or COB
So in reference I would rub the bar back in primer with 400 and paint with Direct Gloss no need for 800
