ok i have sanded the rims back to bare metal, cleaned them with brake cleaner.. wiped over a few times well with a micro fibre cloth.. sprayed with a poly vht black paint for a under coat... a custom enemuel pearl paint over that, now the problem im having is im getting bit of the paint not sticking.. its almost acting like little tiny bubble's of oil are on the rims.. it is covering most of the rim but its moving away from tiny bits all over the place showing the black vht paint thru or even in some spots all the way to the bare metal.. so i have sanded 1 rim down 3 diffrent times and re cleaned and done it all again.. and still getting the same prob..
WTF am i doing wrong? im thinking its the brake cleaner, but im wipeing it off after so much i cant see that any is left behind and i didnt think it would react to the paint like this.. or is it the poly vht paint messing with it? now this paint isnt cheap and im wasting it resanding it of over and over.. any suggestions on what i may be doing wrong and a solution maybe?
any help would be great thanks!
you should use prepsol
id try grease and wax remover instead of the brake cleaner. good luck with it
isnt that used to remove paint of metal? wont it react with the paint?
ok i spose it cant hurt anymore than it has already lol thanks for the help
yeah i got that :P i know i clean the surface with it.. but im reading its used to remove grafitti of walls and metal surfaces.. lol thats why i asked.. all good ill try the prepsol tomorrow and see what happens and repost the results :P thanks again
Yeah man, Prepsol/wax and grease remover should be used just before you're ready to paint.. try not to touch the surface with bare hands afterwards as the oils in your skin will get on the surface
Prepsol (aka wax and grease remover) will not harm paint. It is an absolute must before you paint anything at all, never spray anything before cleaning well with it.
Your problem is the brake cleaner. You may also run into problems with differing paint for the primer and the top coat. If you use an enamel top coat, use an enamel primer just to be safe.
Yeah, as Dakster said, make sure the clear, paint and primer types match, I used acrylic paint & enamel clear and it reacted and turned it yellow (was white)
prepsol is a painters must if you want your project to work!!!
