Hey All,
So my first post is going to be about a hitting a budgie disguised as two trees......
Its a vy ss ute and i've got it insured for $31500 so am really hoping its a write off. They're towing it 600km away from here to newcastle to be assessed/quoted up/repaired. One assessor has already looked at it and said its repairable and it shouldnt cost any more then $20k to fix. Just want to get some peoples opinions on how much they reckon it'll cost to fix? It'll be another fortnight or so by the time I get any idea from the insurance company.

I don't think anyone could come even close to an accurate 'guess' or estimation. With out seeing the full extent of the damage, to the chassis rails and surrounding subframe.
Good luck with it though. Can I have your seats?![]()
80km/h impact - how the **** are you feeling after that?
Haha bloody vultures moving in already! They're just the proseat covers off ebay they were $400 don't know what they're like for wear and tear they were only in for a fortnight. Yeah i've got no idea what the structual damage is it happened at night i only got to take those pics just before they sent it to dubbo for the first assessor who said it looked alright under it but by the way it hit on the side impacted it'd have to be a little out of wack. Gotta love those 'oh ####' moments.
Suprisingly not too bad hey. Backs been a little crook other then that i'm fine. The tree's are fine too just incase theres any concerned greenies out there.
I collected a telegraph pole at 80 ks. Cracked the block clean in half. Was a vs tho :-)
Bugger that i was lucky that i side swiped the first tree that took most of the force the second tree stopped me but. Did you fold your steering wheel over when you hit the telegraph pole mine bent a good 10cm forward. My airbags didn't even deploy must take a bloody hard hit to set them off?
Wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Bent the steering column onto the dash and broke the top section out of it. Lost 4 bottom teeth. Bit most of the way through my tongue. Hit the windscreen and fishhooked the steering wheel on the way back. 300 stitches later. No sense of taste :-) obviously much smarter. And a little luckier. All the best with the car mate
Holy crap I suddenly love seat belts! Thanks bud with any luck i'll be able to go ute shopping soon
you must have wiped a lot of your speed off before you hit the tree cos there is no way you hit it at 80kms..
If your air bags went off (and at 80kms they will have), its going to be a write off.
aZk.
Your bloody lucky you didn't head-on a tree at the full 80km/h mate, your teeth would still be rattling.

Airbags didnt deploy. I think it hit on just the right angle on the side to slow me up it still went airborne in the ass end and the tree I hit infront was only a Little bugger which fell over. I think I'd be feeling it alot worse if i hit a tree and it stopped me dead.
don't want to sound negative but a vy ss ute insured for $31g either you have done extensive mods or its over valued, i would put it value it less than $20g so it would be a write off IMHO

I think it's safe to assume that it has been modified with a payout price of $31,000.
Everyone, even the O/P would know that $31,000 for a VY SS, is way more than Market Value - but most of us can also factor in the possibility that this obviously isn't standard, therefore there is a good chance of it being Agreed Value; With out having to "point it out" to the rest of us.
this car was not traveling at 80km/h when it hit the trees. but anyway. you cant estimate on these photos what it will cost to fix. if i were you i would strongly advise getting a mechanic out to have a look... when i had an accident in my vy ute. it was about $3000 panel damage, but thank god i drove it home because i noticed soo many noises it wasn't funny. i got a mechanic quote (panel beater organised it) and it came back as $8000 thats right $8000. from diff to steering rack to oxy sensors... everything was damaged. btw. i can't see properly but if your b pillar is damaged there is a good chance they will right it off.
Ute was overvalued and had a bit of engine work only mild cam and heads. in hind sight would of never insured for so much. But you live and you learn....I've got no idea where it is at the moment otherwise I'd have a mechanic look at it. I wouldn't expect anyone to have an accurate guess at it just if anyone has had similar accident and what chance there is of it being uneconomical to repair. It happened a fortnight ago and still have no idea where I stand.
Just rang the insurance company and they've said they'll have it checked out by a mechanic. I guess I'm going to have to wait until it gets to newy and reassessed. Why would they send it to newy? It first went to dubbo which isn't exactly a small town they would have all the gear there they would need?
Well they've gotta make sure that they rule out (or find) every possible reason not to pay you out.
Was cash settled $19500 (both front chassis rails were bent to $hithouse and the LHS was bent inwards and twisted 20cm out of alignment) and sold the ute to wreckers have since bought a vz ss thunder with a few modsactually pretty happy with nrma whole process was a little slow but were more then helpful through everything.
