so pretty simple question.
is it easier to do a complete respray with or without a sunroof in?
i only ask this because firstly im curious, and 2ndly this may occur one day.... (dont hold your breath in otherwords)
also similar question and i cannot be bothered making 2 threads.
easier to retrim fabric on ceiling in cabin with or without sunroof?
i would assume before, but there could be a possibility.
Thanks
are you going to cut a hole for a sunroof? in my expierence that is a BAD idea. you can never get the drainage right on aftermarket sunroofs and they rust in about 3 months. factory sunroofs (at least proper ones) have water escape tubes running either down the A pillar or the C pillar which stops the water pooling in the sunroof channel. if water gets stuck there, then dirt follows, then rust comes shortly after. not to mention you will be cutting areas where you may not be able to seal the exposed metal (paint/epoxy, whatever) which will rust immediatly.
sunroofs are a BAD idea all round.
Drawntite, I swear 367 of your 368 posts have been related to sunroofs.
i know =P
but oh well... its better then asking about what size exhaust for a vs commo every 2nd day =P
and thanks for that ari.
good info to use for the future.
i guess that puts an end to the idea. =P
although it would be nice and different
but out of more curiosity.
what if the car was pulled down hole cut and then resprayed and sealed. then sunroof goes in (possibly with drainage tubes aswell)?
or would it be the same, because its not done in the factory?
also what if it is the same model as they use in the factory? (webasto)
just read that ve sunroofs are bolt in kits? so does this mean there are no drainage tubes either?
also what do you mean byt he sunroof channel ari?
and im guessing youve seen this on cars from work?

so back to the original question
would it be easier for a panelneater to do a full respray before or after a sunroof goes in?
i only ask because if i ever seriously consider putting an 8 into the ute id love to completely rebuild the ute and a respray woud be in order and ive been 'considering' a sunroof lately as hama would say its been in every post =P
Sunroof ftw. The factory sunroofs aren't all that great either.I've seen a few where the drainage hose has split or come off and run onto computers and caused massive issues. With an aftermarket sunroof you can make sure it's done properly and hoses are sealed and everything is watertight.
my vote is for after. takes longer to mask it but loads less prep work for final spray. blocking back a roof takes a while cos' its the first and biggest panel you see when looking at a car, so it has to be done well.
