Hey guys,
Been playing with the 202 I picked up the other day - bottom end is fantastic but the bores have seen better days. It was a rebuilt job 12 months or so ago - but has been dormant for most of this time and not sealed properly.
I chucked a bit of oil down the bores and let it sit for a bit, then rotated it by hand - and let the oil overflow over the top of the bores![]()
So there's a bit of oil down my headbolt holes now - how much of a problem is this going to present?
Cheers,
Chris.
I was told that if you don't remove the oil/gunk from the headbolt holes when you then insert and tighten the bolts it can create a lot of pressure in the holes and stop you torquing the bolts properly. It is even possible to crack the block...
Hrm - how does one clean them out, then?![]()
Blow it out with a can of compressed air or even with a higher powered air gun.
get it out ..suction or blow ifOriginally Posted by synoptica

Some of the head bolt holes go straight into the water jackets on a 202 so the oil should go straight through. If you haven't got compressed air to blow the oil out of the holes, just poke a bit of rag in the holes with a screwdriver to push the oil out.
Oh yeah... why didn't I think of that? I have a compressor and air gun in the garage :P
This isn't one of the holes that goes to a jacket though, first thing I checked![]()
