In the picture you can see the brush on the right has the wire melted off and the spring also melted. The brush on top right is the way it should be.
I forgot to mention, these fan motors are really, really easy to take apart, however, they are a real bastard to put back together. The 4 brushes in the the ass of the motor are hard to hold back to insert the commutator thingo. Do don't pull apart a good one, unless you want dramas.
The wiring inside is for 2 teminals so I wood like the complete 2 brush and wire with terminals if possible, but if only one is OK with terminal and at least 1 inch of wire, that should be OK and 1 good spring.
Well! I got no replies, but had time and did fix it.
Low on cash, so I went to a self-serve wrecker and found the broken fan pile. Pulled apart 5 or 6 fan motors till I found a good spring and a Brush big enough to file down to the correct shape and size. Also found one of the bearings was stuffed. Most fans have the identical type bearing, so that was fixed too.
While I was at it, I gave the Commutator Bars a bit of a hone with w&D. Putting it back together is a real tricky task. Had to bend nails to make hooks to hold the Brushes in so I could insert the Armature into the housing. I put the magnet in the opposite way, so I had to reverse the wire polarity to fix that after install into car.
Works great now.
If anyone has a broken one, I'm still chasing for a spare motor!
Thanks
