OTHER INFO:
Chasing an old school locker or rifle safe, prefer something cheap as its going to get modified. Doesn't matter if the locks damaged or key is missing. Got to be able to fit at least 2 rifles. Weight isn't an issue.

George taylor stores has all sorts of gun safes. That's where we got ours from.
Would prefer something secondhand because I need to do some chopping/welding to make it the right weight. Thanks for that though.

I'd assume he wants to add weight so that it meets the AUS requirements for a freestanding gun safe. I was thinking of doing the same thing for my safe, buying a locker and then adding extra plating etc. to it but then relised i'd probable end up spending more and having a less 'safe' safe than if i'd bought something purpose built.
aZk.
Yeah need to add weight because I'm currently at a rental place and am not allowed to bolt the safe to the house.
Ive got a brother who works at a steel supplier so I can get the material at cost, my other brother is a fabricator so the welding is free as well :P

AHh ok.... Seems like a lot of effort, have checked with your landlord if you can bolt it down, it all damage is repaired when you leave, that might be the easier, and cheaper soluition, and as Az said, more secure most likely.
If you want to travel to Gippsland, I have an old school locker, with heavy duty locks welded on that I was going to use to store ammo, but figured making shelves was to much effort haha.
What rifles are you looking at getting?
For now just going to get a 22 each, nothing too serious just something to learn with.
Landlord said no to a bolted down safe as we are on floorboards here.
Where abouts in gippsland are you? And could you send me a couple of photos?
Cheers mate.

Cannot beat the old school locker as a gun safe format.
There nice and deep so you can actually fit a decent amount of rifles fitted with optics in them.
Unlike my store bought 5 gun locker which turned into a 3 gun locker, turned into the shotgun locker.
