2007 Ve commodore omega
Hello, I have a 2007 Ve omega and recently last week I was driving and the check engine light and oil level light came on. I tried to ignore it as I was 1 hour away from home and as I've gotten home I've noticed a noise from the engine that sounded like a old tractor. I live in a very small rural town and the mechanics here have said the noise is coming from the left side of the engine and that they scanned the cars computer and the code that came up read 'engine module'. Does anyone know what this could possibly mean? I purchased the car in Late November last year (2016) from a dealership, apparently it has a high oil level reading and has had this problem before I purchased it. It also has flakes of metal in the oil and the oil is abit clunky. it is the only car I have and only way of transport and I am currently on a tight budget so can't just go an buy a new car.

Did they give you a code number?
Flakes of metal in oil is normally fatal.
Ignoring any warnings is usually a bad thing.
When U say oil is "clunky" do you mean Gluggy?
If so this could be timing chains gone or going.
The best thing for the VE's are regular oil and filter changes
and I normally halve the time recommended in the book.

Sounds like a sludged engine, pickup is probably partially blocked resulting in low oil pressure.

Game over I'm afraid.

Would you say once every 6 months is acceptable?
What about if it sits in the driveway half the time?

I think OP meant it was low on oil.
These cars need at minimum 7L of full synthetic (read expensive) oil.
Anything below that you run the risk of overheating.
Sludgy/gruggy oil means it hasn't been changed in a very long time.

I cannot comment on what the flakes of metal

I do my SV6 oil etc Every 5000ks. I do 500k a week to and from work, so it's fairly often.

Also have a catch can installed and slightly enlarged PCV holes. Was fairly blocked when I cleaned up the PCV outlet valve.
Can actually hear the air rushing through the PCV piping now.

Does anyone know how one gets the sump off to check the oil pickup? Lifting the engine is required I'm guessing.

If you're in Victoria try TriTech oil. Made here and fully synthetic. $43 for 5L. $150 for a 20L drum
