Did you also get the ignition keyfob from the vehicle the BCM came from, you will need to put the new fob onto your old key, otherwise the car wont start, the keyfob and BCM are both security coded to eachother, and both must match eachother before the immobiliser will allow the engine to start..
BCM number 761 ute is for a VR ute with key override security.
Im sure the 148 ute BCM is for VS models, so it might not suit a VR..
The first pic below is VS BCM's, the second pic is VR BCM's.. My VS exec sedan has a low 150 BCM..

The BCM you have shows that your ute uses a key override type BCM, so your immobiliser might just be turned off at the immobiliser override switch. This override switch should be located in the front of the passenger side door jamb near the door hinges. Some very early VR's had this override key setup before they switched to the timed immobiliser override .

The Holden VS service CD says:

"IMPORTANT: The Low Series BCMs' used on VS and VR Series Models are not interchangeable due to differences in terminal assignments and vehicle wiring."
Low series BCMs being - (148) Ute, (150) Low, and (146) Mid.

"IMPORTANT: The High Series YAZAKI BCMs' used on VS and VR Series Models are not interchangeable due to differences in terminal assignments and vehicle wiring."
High Series BCMs being - (147) Berlina, and (149) Calais, Statesman, Caprice.
