VE Omega
Hey guys,

My recently bought VE Commodore is due for a oil change soon and had a couple questions...

On the engine cover, it recommends 5-30 engine oil. My 2009 omega has done 195,000kms on it... will the 5-30 grade be too light for the amount of km's? I was thinking maybe using 10-40 castrol magnatec, semi synthetic.?

Also, does anyone know how many liters of oil these engines like to drink up?

I can't find any servicing guide threads or any workshop manual (i hear that there are no workshop manuals for VE commodores?), anyone know any good links with tips etc?

Finally, how do i reset the servicing period so the next due service on the dash computer is now 205,000kms?

Thank you all!

Omega should take about 7.5 litres.

Before you drain it take the filter out, to do so- on the left side of the engine pull strait up on the engine cover, the filter housing is underneath and is un-done with a 24mm socket.

7.1L

and

Passenger side (which is the left side of the engine but RHS when you look at it front on)

You can continue to use the 5W30 weight oil. If you have a little engine noise or excess oil consumption (due to wear) you could try a thicker oil which might reduce those symptoms.
The Castrol website recomends the following oils for 2006-2009 VE Commodore V6 3.6ltr engines.
Castrol Edge 5W-30 A3/B4
Castrol Magnatec Fuel Saver 5W-30
Castrol GTX Modern Engine 10W-30.

Castrol Magnatec 10W40 is also fine to use in the Alloytec motor.

The service Refill Capacity is 6.5 Litres with a new factory filter.

To turn the serivce reminder off refer to your cars user guide.

Cheers guys, filter was a complete mission to remove as it was previously done really tight but got there at the end....

The fact that my 'Trip' button no longer works doesnt help me try reset the service reminder.... bugger i guess thats next to do on my list... think ill get the holden dealers to do that though before i go blowing up airbags etc!

Probably 7.1 if you have it jacked up and don't drain all the oil, or if you dont take the filter out 1st- but -if you drain it on a flat level surface from hot,for at least 1/2 hour and have taken the filter out 1st it will take 7.5l.

No. It is 7.1 when drained on a hoist, filter removed. 7.3 at the most.
