K-frames between power steer and manual steer in the earlies are different. The fact everything fitted up schmick as you put it says to me that you fitted the exact same type as you took out.

I took out power steer and put in manual.

I've spoken to a few people who have had the exact same thing and yet I have also seen cases where the frame is different as you say. Hey it all worked for me so I'm happy but it is strange i agree.

Over here the ones with out the sway bars were 4 cylinder diffs, all the 6 cylinder & V8's i've ever seen had sway bars. I used to wreck & fix commodores for a dollar years back, also heard there are 3 different width diffs in the early commodores. I must have been lucky over the years as i never struck a problem......

VB, VC-VK, VL.
VB was about 1 mm wider than VC-VK, VL was wider again. If you have wide wheels/tyres on a pre VL and put a VL diff in it you can get rubbing because its about 10mm wider each side.
Mounting points between body styles (i.e. sedan-sedan and wagon-wagon) were the same though.

I know for a fact VB-VK Salisbury diffs for sedan are same widths, same as wagons. Have measured a VK Borg Warner diff, little bit wider in sedan, not wagons.

From the Holden, not Gregory's etc., workshop manual.
VB Commodore: Tread (Rear)
8VK69 1417mm
8VL69 1417mm
8VX69 1422mm

VC Commodore: Tread (Rear)
8VK69 1416mm (Drum)
8VL69 1416mm (Drum)
8VK69 1424mm (Disc)
8VL69 1424mm (Disc)
8VX69 1422mm

8VK35 1440mm (Drum)
8VL35 1440mm (Drum)
8VK35 1447mm (Disc)
8VL35 1447mm (DIsc)

VH Commodore: No entry in the manual so it is no different to the VC.
VK Commodore: I haven't got a genuine manual on these (yet) but from memory (I did my apprenticeship on these things) there wasn't any difference at all apart from some later VKs come out with the VL type BW.
