Hey guys having trouble with me vl calais 308. Ive changed 4 starter motors 2 brand new bosh starter motors gave up then baught a Chinese hi torque it worked fine for about 3 weeks then gave up, so then i put a second hand starter in worked for about a week and stopped.

When i turn the key over i can hear the relay clicking theres power on my dash. So I've changed the alternator (brand new) connected new wiring to the starter, new terminals. Battery ive changed. Can anyone please help find this problem much appreciated

Usual obvious checks...

Earths & power fittings cables are tight
Battery has full charge
Purple wire at starter solenoid engine harness plugs are not damaged or loose.

2 common issues.

Does it have relay hooked up??? Still good?
Quite common for old holdens to have big voltage drop in purple starter wire that solenoid may not engage starter every time or even reliably.

Next time it wont crank hook up wire & switch from solenoid starter to battery bypass it all..if it cranks over obviously wiring/relay/ign switch issue

Another one was after long drive earlier model(large) starter motors would get heatsoaked & not work untill time to cool down...changing to smaller high-torque vt starter motors usually solved issue, heaps smaller but also require 2 shorter equal length bolts.

Personally prefer to stick with genuine bosch starters/coils/alternators

.. put a relay into the solenoid circuit (as lots do what you have stated and that is the only remedy)

you can buy a kit (relay, wiring connections for about $20 on Fleabay)

Ive got a relay connected. It used to be once it heats up id have to wait till it cools down after the first stater motor but then after that constantly frying my staters ill do thst purple wire truck and give it a go see i go
