SHIT!! What a Bummer.
How come new 2017 builds are showing camera alerts and from a previous post from GM customer care the new map updates will have camera alerts? Is it because you are VF1?
Yes, it seems only has alerts for 2016 and 17 builds.
Did anyone get their map update for free? my car was delivered 10/12/16 and has 5,000km. All dealers said no you have to pay. I contacted customer service and they have said they will cover the cost and given me a reference number to give to any dealer. Pretty happy with that!!
Dealer didn't finish a minor prob with mine so has kept it overnight (MY16). I am getting the map update but without being specifically told, I thought it was a freebie (as according to them my car should have had POI camera).
How did you contact customer service (online, phone...?)
Perhaps I should go prepared.
I have received an email back from Holden when asking them about the map update and the camera POI on my MY16 (does not currently have camera POIs or alerts available):
Myself and our TAC team have looked into your VIN on our system and have seen that your vehicle is eligible for an update on the navigation system. I have also looked into the Safety/ speed camera POI, to get this feature the software in the infotainment unit (not navigation software) will need to be updated via the service department at your local Holden dealership. You will need to speak to your local Holden dealership for further information in regards to this matter.
So the Camera POI is a software update, not a map update and needs to be done separately. According to this email it can be done... so I'll check with my Holden dealer next time I have a service (which won't be for a couple of months).
I would like to know the reason why,,,,,,,, considering the speed camera POI is a separate update not with the Navigation Software why it cannot be used on a Early Models before 2016 with the latest Software for Navigation.
Can they do it or if its a case that They Don't want to do it on Earlier Models.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your VIN number and the question... hopefully they can tell you.
I found one November 2015 VF where it works. So maybe very late 2015 builds are okay.
I do not believe that there is any difference in the hardware for any MyLink Commodore that has SatNav.
I am talking out my backside in terms of actual knowledge, but I'm going to claim there is no difference with the strong certainty that nobody will prove me wrong.
Software can be updated.
My belief is that any MyLink Commodore can be updated; but that the dealers don't really know what's going on WRT these updates, so they don't know what update is involved to get the camera places of interest update in MyLink. In fact, I wonder whether the update for the camera POI's isn't released yet, and that those who have it now have a factory-installed MyLink version which can handle the camere POI's but needed the info to be in the updated maps before it worked.
I emailed the customer service guys back to clarify that I'll need two separate updates and this was confirmed:
Thank you for your email.
Yes that's correct the service department will need to perform two seperate updates to your system to have the features you want on your MyLink system.
All of what you say may be right. But the dealers when they order the new map have to supply the VIN and wait for it to arrive. It isn't a generic map update that the dealer can use over and over. Hope you are correct about new software to unlock the Cameras for the pre 2016 builds.
Well, just to add to the topic, my car is still at the dealers. They are replacing the whole "master" communication module (my terminology).
I reminded them to update maps and software but he said the maps were the latest but there was a software update for poi cameras.
Funny thing is our SV6 is August build 2015 and Has Reverse Grid Lines, My Neighbour has a SV6 build July 2015 and he has no grid lines. Interesting.
I will contact tomorrow Holden customer care and ask about this as its interesting that a Late November 2015 is ok for the POI Updates including the Schools Alert and other.
Will Find out tomorrow if The August Build is OK.
Tell Me when your got you Calais V Done the other day for the Map Update did they update ANY Other POI
Maybe It can be done for earlier models but they don't want to do it. I have stuck the same with satellite Boxes where The Manufacture or other parties itself say you cannot do this for soft cam installation as it wont work and yet the Hackers forum tell you how to do it and IT WORKS!!
Time will tell if this will be possible on a late 2015 car
hackers forum, got a link?
There's a lot of info out there from Chev forums (US and Russian) but I haven't looked into it as I won't be jerking around with mine (even if it's possible to hack) until it's out of warranty.
Android Auto looks interesting as well
With any new map lots of POIs are updated and many added.
My Calais had a software update and a map update. I have a case with Holden customer care now and they are going to advise when they will re-attempt the update. My argument is I have one new car with the speed camera alerts and one car with a map update that is not the same.
