I searched for ages before doing this install and couldn’t find an exact procedure so here it is;
vs series 3 caprice v8 (should be the same for all VR/VS v8 and v6)
Installed 3.7’s from factory 3.07 and Speedo/shift spot and lock up was way out.
Purchased a Dakota digital SGI-100BT $210 off ebay
the instructions make it seem extremely difficult but I promise you it’s not, took me roughly an hour to complete and that’s including road testing and reading the instructions when I didnt need to
Start by removing passenger kick panel inside the car to expose the ECU, snip the purple/white wire about 150mm away from the ECU (just to give enough room to work with) solder a length of wire around 200mm on both snipped endshe end from the ECU goes into the INPUT of the Dakota, the other end into OUT2, you then need to find 12v accessories and an earth, see attached photos I had a live plug there for the in car phone if you do not have this there’s plenty of other sources around there just make sure it’s accessories NOT constant 12v or it will run your battery flat.
Download the app, turn the car to acc and connect the unit to the app then take the care for a drive and test, I made an adjustment to the calibration value down to 0.830 and this made my Speedo 100% accurate with my WAZE app I had open while driving showing me a GPS speedo as the one on the app didn’t seem accurate.
once happy, tape everything up and secure the unit to sit ontop of the ECU or wherever you want where the inputs and outputs are not being stretched.
Awesome little bit of gear I highly recommend. Feel free to contact me if you get stuck or need a hand wi your own andrew 0433400243.
