I don't really think VW "faked" anything. The car had to comply at the test, it did. I think you could apply this blanket fraud theory to just about everyone that holds a drivers license. They did what they were required to do at the test, but after that, they do what they want.

Calm down man... Sheesh. As has been pointed out, has anyone died because of it? No!

This whole thing is a joke! Why? For decades, tobacco companies have been proven to KNOW cigarettes are dangerous to your health and can cause death. They KNEW and kept selling them, promoting them, marketing them to younger and younger people KNOWING they're addictive and KNOWING they will kill you. and MANY people have died. Where's the level of outcry for that FRAUD?

This whole VW thing has been blown WAAAAAAY out of proportion. Probably as a precursor to even more ridiculous greeny hippy environmental planet warming alarmist garbage that will do nothing but cost most people money and line the pockets of the already wealthy.

White noise? This whole VW thing IS the white noise... The economic effect alone tells you the motivation for the amount of attention it has is not because of negligible amounts of gas that have no significant impact.

And with regard to the significant impact comment, consider this - 1 volcanic eruption causes the release of many, many times more emissions of pollutants than the emissions of the entire human race since the beginning of humans existence.

You're kidding right?

The fraud is the issue in it's entirety.

Not the cigarette people, not whatever other random crap you want to drag up - the fraud, the fraud that allowed them to market their cars as green, to claim millions in tax credits.

Are there other environmental issues, uh yes - duh. That's not the issue at all, the issue is VW's fraud.

That's why any and all other points are white noise, it's why the EPA will sit back - they will say, you tricked us and they will fine them billions - because fraud, not because "no-one died".

Does the car meet the requirements of the test? Yes.

And the EPA isn't tricking us into believing we are killing the planet with our environmentally devastating vehicles?

Millions of years of this hasn't/isn't killed the planet.

So if anyone thinks a few years of this has/is, they're just plain stupid!

So VW gets a competitive advantage over other car manufacturers by committing fraud and that's OK??? Maybe the environmental effects are questionable but if no one has to follow the rules where does it end- cut costs by not fitting airbags, maybe put substandard brakes in etc etc.

How many car makers fake engine noise by enhancing it with software to play through the cars speakers? Isn't that gaining a competitive edge through deception also?

VW aren't compromising safety though, they are just pissing on the greenies.

Fact is, VW met the requirements of the test. It would be an interesting legal battle to watch.

I genuinely don't see it as fraud. I see it as creative engineering to gain a competitive advantage in a free market.

If there were a rule stating that you couldn't do it.
