Recently I purchased a second-hand set of Aunger weathershields (type AWS181) for my VX wagon. Being second hand, there were no installation instructions.

I thought it would take about five minutes to mount but, as much as I tried, I just couldn't figure out how the damned things went on. It looked very simple, but it defeated me every time I tried.

So I searched the internet and this forum for assistance but couldn't find any helpful answers, only others experiencing the same frustration. I left it for a couple of days and then this morning I went out, took a deep breath and had another go, convincing myself they must fit on - I just had to figure out how.

Then I saw the error I'd been making trying to fit the weathershields.

The weathershield is held onto the steel door frame by a series of steel clips that look similar to a lower case 'Z'.

I had been trying to mount these clips under the rubber at the top of the steel window frame but I now realised they were meant to mount below the steel window frame. You simply pull the spongy rubber window seal down, expose the bottom of the steel window frame and push the clip into place so that the 6-8 mm depression near the start of the clip clicks onto the bottom steel ledge of the window frame. Once done, it was just a simple matter of pushing the rubber window seal back into position.

Once I'd worked this out, put and put some alignment marks on the rubber door surround to locate the correct position of each clip, the clips were popped into place and the perspex weathershield fixed into position in about five minutes flat.

It was easy once you know how, so I hope this helps others who may have trouble trying to put their weathershields on.

Unfortunately no pics. I have tried previously to upload some pics but I couldn't work out how to do it - so gave up trying. I reckon that one pic is worth a thousand words so if anyone reading this post would like to tell me how to upload pics to the Just Commodore site I'd be very thankful.

You can upload a pic to your post, if on a pc there should be a lil paper clip icon, click it and away you go. Or you can upload them to photobucket and then link them in your post

I am so grateful to the OP. I too tried to fit the same weathershields that I got on eBay yesterday. I agree that it seems that you fit the clips from above but no, a quick search brought me here. I have fitted the passenger side successfully now and will do the other side tomorrow with my camera.

As promised the pics of the install. It was so much quicker thanks to the knowledge gained from the OP.

wish I'd seen your thread, could have told you how they fit on :)

I have one issue with these things though - they DO impede the top of the windows a small amount - make sure your windows are closing correctly, if you have tint make sure there are no sharp edges to munch the tint at the top as well.

Note- when removing weather shields from your car go slow and be very careful :/ Or you will break them as I did they are stuck on with like gummy style glue

Got rid of mine a little while ago - would not install any again, they messed up my window open/close action.

I do like weather shields, that's not the issue - the issue was the damage their poor fit did, might try some GM ones in future.

So did I, the metal clips interfere with the top of the windows - would not recommend them.
