Water pump renewal how to

Purchased a new water pump and I'm wondering if the gaskets are like in the old days were you soaked them in water before fitting or is there any need to us the gaskets and a sealant.

Don't have to soak them.
Yes, you can choose to apply sealant if you want... I always use Sealant because I don't ever want to do a job twice.

When I took the gaskets out the box they were bent so I ran them under the tap for a second and then placed them between pages of a book and now there straight.

I've had to do a couple one in the 3.8 and one in the 5.7 no extra sealant used - just made sure the mating surfaces were perfectly clean and dry first.
