We probably need a how-to sticky with a pictorial walkthrough for each platform?
Or have a forum code that can automagically resizes large pics so members don’t need to worry about such trivialities :p

Back to the workshop today to continue on with the milling machine levelling jackscrews.

This is the foot of the mill showing the coolant catchment area where the coolant returns to the sump via a small screen.
(The chip tray has been removed to access the threaded holes for the jackscrews)

Found a piece of threaded rod in one of the scrap boxes, so I was able to avoid screw cutting 650mm of 19mm 1018 bar stock (thread is 19mm x 2.5mm).

Used a 16mm ball nosed end mill to cut a pocket in each jack pad.

Rough cut the threaded rod for the jackscrews.

Finished all the lathe operations on the jackscrews.

Need to form a hex on the ends of the jackscrews to be able to turn them with a long socket. The front (shorter) jackscrews have to be recessed all the way into the threaded holes on the mill, to clear the chip tray when I refit it. The largest socket that will fit in the threaded holes is a long, thin walled 12mm socket. So, the hexes will be cut to 12mm across the flats.
Everything is set up on the mill, ready to cut. The jackscrews are held in a hexagonal collet block. Hopefully I'll be finished tomorrow.
