edit* and just so i am clear: you can update gfx, ram and cpus in imac's and macbooks now?

ram yes. cpu/gpu very difficult as they are soldered onto the board. this is not dissimilar to normal laptops though, many can also prove to be difficult like this (especially considering compatibility issues), while others can be upgraded easily. just depends on manufacturer.
