No differance in sound as the 1 5/8 part is only the first 4-6 inches of each pipe. Stepped headers apparently give better mid range torque, but the 1 3/4 are better for top end power.

ok great. sounds wise any difference?
I have the stepped at the moment with 2.5" xforce and was wondering if it was a bad move. I am yet to hear a 3" with the stepped headers but i dont want drone.
The 2.5" does sound alot better outside of the car i must say the sound inside makes u think its really quiet.

3" exhaust is a hell of alot louder than 2.5", depending what brand you get will change the rear boxes which will give you drone.
I have 1 7/8 to 1 3/4 headers into full 3" system with varex mufflers and it is crazy loud when i'm up it, but cruising on 110-120 no drone.
