Default crane 286 cam and blue tops 775 tune VS auto

Hi guys, Purchased a crane 286 cam, i know that this is substantially a large cam for a relatively standard motor ( heavy duty valve springs, push rods, lifters, locks and retainers) and just the 775 blue top injectors. But this is my starting point. It is a HSV manta 5L from a VS. I put it in my VR ute, swapping the looms of course. It is also the electronic auto.

It has a 3000rpm converter from Gonzo at Allfast. Does anyone have a tune that will get me running with this combo? I am virtually new to this tuning process. I am a mechanic by trade and i know this is a complex thing but this interest me alot. My job is EFI diagnostics and by doing this i would hope to have a broader range of understanding.

    Thanks heaps for any returns
    Jake

not at present, i have a friend that has a 286 on a stock motor and it aint that bad. but i will be shaving heads and 3 angle cut in the not to distant future. Thanks for the concern though mate.

I hear Green foam is quite busy these days, i may make an enquiry but id hate to throw him in the deep end along with all the other requests that he has.

Any ideas on wheres the best place to get blank memcals. Preferably a capricorn supplier

so ive been doin a bit of research on sum of the other threads, as i understand i will need a epromm eraser and a programmer, I looked for a programmer but im not sure which pin count i should get. Has someone got one they can recommend? And this tunerpro software for the realtime tuning is it compatible to the vs hsv 96 computer?

    Welcome to www.moates.net! : Moates.Net
Look at the relevant part number for your ECU. Can't remember what the VS one is.

ps. If you are staying with stock or mild compression then go for a 276 or smaller cam. Less = more.

thats a fair call. I suppose cams are reasonably cheap and when i do upgrade the compression i could always go larger. Thanks for that

You dont need to go any larger.
You need good static compression to get the most out of it.

    Start shaving those heads mate.
