Vt v6 tune/memcal

my wifes 1999 S1 VT Calais V6 has just hit 200K k's, before we get it serviced i was thinking of getting a better TUNE for the V6, in order to do it all at once.

the car needs a tune anyway as it has become a little rough at idle and it doesnt start instantly anymore (it cranks for a couple of seconds). The car has a GREAT service history and was praised by my old mechanic in melbourne for the quality of the car.

i am planning on getting a better exhaust for the car (cat back, better mufflers)

i need help with a few things as geting good info is as hard and confusing as talking to 2 month old!

would it be a better if i went with a memcal from a VX/VY, or just go all out with an aftermarket tune.

i know that XU6 memcals are the golden ticket (if you can find one) and would that be suited to our standard car.

would a newer memcal work with the VT BCM etc?

i am not after making the car loud or fast, i just want my wife to have a great, economical/reliable and more fun (for me) shopping trolley.

the rough idle and not starting isntantly anymore is a dirty MAF, go buy yourself a can of contact cleaner and cleant he MAF elements with it, you will be amazed the difference it will make.

+1 on cleaning MAF.

things like rough idle, starting issues etc are not tune related. there more faults with the vehicle that need rectifying before you get a tune.

as for getting a tune, need to get a tune for a VT V6. anything newer is flash tuned, meaning there is no memcal, tune is burnt into memory directly in PCM.
XU6 memcals will only suit the Supercharged V6 engines/PCM's.

if you search on here for memcal tune, you'll turn up plenty of hits on people to use.
delcowizzid is the man to speak to for v6 tunes anyway, only prob is he is in NZ, so might take awhile to send/receive it back.

as abouve clean maf, also check spark plugs and fuel filter. YOu can get a tune but with a stock car youll be wasting over $1000 for no real gain, unless you wack some gd mods into it i wouldnt bother. If you do exhaust and intake you dont need a tune at all.

Cheers People, as it turns out we got a sh@# batch of fuel! TWO tanks later and she's running Sweet as.

service and new brakes are on the cards now, i'm starting to get heat from the wife now she saw some pics of TRIXTR and wants her car to look like that( i cant blame her)

at least she has listened whan i said we need to get black centred wheels,LOL!
