    Default Best IAT location

perhaps an interesting question, i am in the process of turbocharging the VS V6 and have removed the airbox and have a pod on the front of the turbo. so should i relocate the air temp sender from the air box lid to in front of the turbo, or should i put in in the charge piping near the TB so it has a more realistic reading of the actual intake temps?? would it really make much difference??

also planning on a delcowizzid tune too. perhaps the tune would/could accommodate for the relocated sensor?

You want the temp to reflect as close as possible to the real air temp of the air going into your intake which goes into the combustion camber. Obviously you dont want to also put it where engine parts can artificially make the temp rise making it inaccurate, hence why holden puts it in the airbox.

so then id be right to put it into the intercooler piping sorta near the throttle body then. then as you said, the computer will measure the temp of the air that the engines actually breathing not the temp of the airbox in this scenario.

IAT temp fluctuation because of engine heat should be less of an issue due to the ram of air going past it compared to less dense non ramed air of N/A. So i would put it as you said as close to the throttle body intake as possible. IAT wont affect fueling much it will have more of an effect on timing as colder air allows more timing vs hotter air. Obviously you will need to change the timing anyway in your tune to factor in colder denser air because of the turbo intercooler setup.

By means im not expert at any of this and have never played with turbo setups before i only know what ive read in published books.

cool thanks. you basically just confirmed what i was thinking tho. that it would be a more accurate measurement closer to the TB.

do a google search perhaps turbo intercooler - Google Search

At the end of the day heatsoak in the pelium chamber from the engine would be more of a problem then the accuracy of IAT temps if you get picky

yea pretty much all saying the same thing. as close to the intake valve as possible. so i could probably tap the plenum and put it there, or put it in the intake pipe just b4 the TB. and when i get delcowizzid to tune me a memcal ill just have to let him know that i moved my sensor.

i wouldn't put in the Plenum heat soak of the metal being one thing, the other thing is the air wont be a consistent flow like in the intake tube, id put it in the intake tube before the Throttle Body.

good point on the heat soak. my vr has it in the intake runner would that be a better spot on the ecotec? or just leave it before the TB?

Im thinking you would get more accurate results across all cylinders being in the intake before TB
