I have the chance to buy a one owner VY Berlina V8 auto in good condition.
When I checked on the Red Book site which lists all info ( for registration ) on the vehicle, I was surprised to see a 0 to 100 KPH figure of 9.3 seconds !
Very slow, same time for a VX II or a VY II !
When I drove the vehicle it felt this slow.
My VX II Equipe V6 is quoted by Red Book as having a 0 to 100 time of 8.7
My V6 auto feels like a much more responsive motor, and they both have the same gearbox ratios and final drive.
Are the Berlina V8’s really that much of a slug in standard form ?
I realise I can get a tune done, but I cant see all that missing ( asleep ) torque returning with a few degrees extra advance lower in the rev range.
Can a tune really give say an extra 15 KW and 30 NM of torque gain at 2000 revs ?
Appreciate any informed comments.
Cheers all
Yes, well a v6 will always accelerate quicker then a v8?
I thought that was common knowledge?
But saying that an 3.8 is far better than the "slug" LS1 is just silly!
But im still confused with your question? What is it your asking exactly??
The questions are :-

The Berlina is marketed for the older community. It's not meant to be fast.
Yes I realise that, and I am the older community.
For a 5.7 litre motor, it lacked torque. I do not want to go that fast in it, I just thought it would be a better top gear drive than my Ecotec V6.
I have just had use of a VE Berlina 6.0 auto for a few days and it is a much quicker car than the VY.
This should not be the case.
The VE weighs some 200 KG more than the VY. The extra 300 cc should not make that much difference.
To answer the obvious question, I do not like the VE model.
Cheers all
Just had a quick look on Redbook.
The VX Equipe gets peak torque and 3600 rpm, where as the VY Berlina gets it at 4400rpm.
Add that and the extra 91kg of the Berlina, and that's where your 0.6 seconds is coming from.
ok the ls1 makes its peak torque much later in the rev range than the old 5.0L and the 3.8v6, this means having to rev it harder to get anywhere which is kind of annoying for a roadcar. This was fixed with the 6L. The v6 will be more responsive until the v8 wakes up and gets in its power zone.
