Tuner Locked ECU LS1/LS2/LS3

Hey All

If you come across an ecu that has been tuned and locked by a different tuner, is it possible to use a program to flash a factory program back to the ECU? I was reading in the states a lot of people are doing this

Have come across a few cars that have been tuner locked by people that don't exist anymore (company died) or by tuners who have to much pride to unlock their tunes so that others can alter them

Yes, happens all the time. Requires a reflash.

how do you re-flash it? is there a program you can use to do it?

if you havent got the password to unlock it you cant get in with tuning software
there are guys out there that can unlock them though

i heard its ilegal too lock the ecu ?

Its not illegal, most places do it so other tuners dont "borrow" their tunes.

All cars and their modifications are different IMHO so I'm unsure why they lock it as tuning means to me 'specifically' to that car. Unlike mailorder which would be a general basic tune

If you sent the ECU back to the manufacturer, they can unlock and reset it.
