HDT, I don't use 98 octane fuel, I think it's going past the point of being usefull on a stock V6, I go faster on premium or even a half mix of unleaded and premium with a bit less spark. IF I was using 98 octane all the time and had spent all my time getting the spark and mixtures right for it I might get a bit more out of it but yeah for the extra money it costs it's just not worth it to me. I can't remember where the crispy memcal is but its in these forums somewhere I might be able to come up with a couple more kw sometime in the next couple of weeks when I get some time, I have a few new ideas in my current testing memcals

Do u need a good soldering iron to do the socket install, and do you need anything more than basic soldering skill?
kilowatts are like drugs, the more you get, the more you want.

nah, basic skill shold do, the trick is getting the eprom out. and get a solder sucker or solder wick, will help a lot. and the main thing you will need is patience.

Today I ran 1/4 mile after 1/4 mile after 1/4 mile after 1/4 mile after 1/4 and you what I discovered that the stock memcal isn't as slow as I thought. I don't know what happened last time I tried back to back testing but today I could run a 15.53 at 90.3 mph with the stock chip and 15.39 at 90.9 mph with my current latest custom chip, stuff all difference really. This was with all the normal stuff in the car and the spare wheel etc. I could run 0-60 mph 6.9 flat with the custom chip and 7.07 with the stocky. This is all very strange because before I could run only 7.6 with the stock chip, the stock chip is much smoother quiter and sounds less powerful but it's very rapid off the line, I think that's where it's gaining lots of time on my chip, like Fred said before that my chip has much less torque off the line than the other chips, for him that's great because it saves wheelspin and gets him a quicker launch. My chip is infinatly faster than the stock chip at part throttle because I run the different fuel map but at WOT it seems very hard to gain alot of power over stock. Anyway I need a total rethink about this and I'm sure I need alot less timing from 0-2500 revs, after that I've got the stock chip beat everywhere but I think my car is very restricted by the exhaust at high rpm anyway.

Well I'll just work on getting down to 6.8 0-60 mph because the 1/4 miles are getting a bit scary at the moment because my car needs a few new parts in the front end that I really need done in a couple weeks time. On a really bumpy road not much wider than the car it gets pretty hairy at the terminal speeds I'm doing.

That's all very confusing, I'm off to have a think about it

Hmmm, thanks for the update foamie. Seems like the stock chip is ok afterall. Its all a little weird. Get back to us when uve got more ideas, or even explanations. Im sure were all interested on how this plays out.

I'd be sure the modified ones would make miles more power on a better breathing car

The Grey Wires of the main centre console loom, is the park/neutral switch wires to the ecm to pin B10. Ground these permanantly to the black wire, and the ecm is in 'manual' mode. (The difference is, for starters... TC lockup will no longer be needed, idle speeds selected are slightly changed)

The blue/grey wire also needs grounding, it is for the start solenoid. (This is why you cannot start the engine in park or neutral) or use it for a extra security measure..... work it out....

If your converting a VN/VP V8 to manual, I can also advise you, the VR/VS manual V8 memcal can be used in the VN/VP computer. (Yes it can) and is better.
A nice upgrade, but youwon't be able to use 8192aldl unless you buy the US spec model of our 1227808 the '1227165', or buy an expensive, but local VR/VS '082 computer. (why!)

But ALSO, the same code, for VR/VS V8 manual, can also run the V8 VN/VP AUTO hydraulic box, and also has the code to run the Torque Converter lockup, and all the extra auto shit... I have created a special modified code for auto use that has the extra tables filled out.

Why all this... VR/VS have lean cruise too.

Plus with high speed aldl- EFIlive and stuff get even more fun. 8192 bps vs 160bps, better datalogging.... lets face it, 160bps is slow, and at that sampling rate- is useless for datalogging the drags.

(Ducking now for the barage of questions)

sorry to drag this back up,the first part in your post here....that is why you replace the wiring loom to avoid this issue.but if people just bought the gearbox and adaptor, your post is extremly helpful
the way i did my conversion, was i already had a spare VN (repairable write off wagon 5 speed) i swapped the lot over, motor, gearbox, and wiring loom from the ECU to engine sensors, starter motor ,etc, etc, also the wiring loom from under the console which is detachable from the main wiring loom.

For those of you who insist on using EPROMS (rather than EEPROMS) www.rockby.com.au are running a deal on 32Kx8 200ns EPROMS for $6 for a tube of 12.

...And no I don't work for/own shares in them.

haha, I was going to tell you a story about making static but I didn't want to give anyone any free voltage generating ideas that could be dangerous , lets just say when I was about 10 years old I unleashed the full power of an ester egg wrapper. If you have some kind of plastic socks and plastic carpet be carefull when playing with your eprom , might do yourself out of a $2 part but I really doubt it, eproms are tuff

I was going to post a message today Jim, telling you that I hadn't been able to run a fast time in a while (had been stuck at around 7.2 or 7.3~!) but I was thinking nah I'll wait and see if it comes good with a clean filter (my uni filter is black and full of dust/bugs) so I used a freshly cleaned K&N that I bought off a guy on these forums and tried tonight, car has felt stronger all day and tonight ran 7.09 0-60 mph with a fair bit of stuff in the car and 1/3 tank of fuel. 6's are there to be had again that's good because it means I still have a benchmark for testing my manifold ideas : )

Does the stock memcal have a top speed fuel cut out at 210kph? If so has anyone managed to get rid of it?

My VN accelerates hard to about 210, then it only goes faster if there's a bit of a hill. It seems like something is restricting it?

Yes and Yes it's easy to get rid of, but the VN doesn't have enough power to go much or any fater than that anyway, A very low manual might make it a bit faster . But yeah 210 is fast enough unless your trying to escape a nuclear blast or something? you want to have it removed just incase you need that ? : )

lol yeah a nuclear blast, that's it

My commo is a 5 speed with all the usual mods; zorst, extractors and cia. I just think a custom chip would give it a bit more grunt.

Any chance u could program a memcal for me with one of your maps? Do u live in Qld? I'll give u $50 and swap my memcal for one of your custom ones.

I don't really like to make them for people, especaily if you are going to wrap yourself around a tree seeing if I really did take the speed limiter out . Better you learn to make it yourself and do that yourself. I know I'm not going to go anywhere near that fast myself (unless escaping the nuclear blast) so it's ok for me : )
