you can buy a cai from places like Mace or Bye Performance or Yella Terra. Or make it yourself with some flex hose. Just get som 4 inch flex, cut hole into the side of airbox and run that flex form airbox down behind the radiator so it picks up clean fresh air from under the front bar. Also put a gd quality hi flow filter like a K&N

I did it on my 5.7 SS. Did SFA.
Can't see a supercharged 3.8 being a great deal different, that said this is purely speculation on my behalf. If there is any difference its fairly insignificant.

    soop you are exactly right

i cut the hole bottom out of a box on a vp and cut through the gaurd took the bellmouth out it made it sound harder and it wanted to get it's power down a bit qiucker but in a line did not change anythink went just as fast

like i said all it did was from my feel of it was just let the wheels hook in a bit better as i think the power probaly went down at 1000-2000rpm so got the wheels sticking a bit better

Any supercharged engine takes a lot more kindly to cold air than an N/A engine.

wtf is that supposed to mean?
    Wheels sticking a bit better?
    from a dodgy airbox mod?

    blown V6 -
Yeah I know that, But even on a standard L67 I really doubt it will do anything. For the hour it takes to do, you would be lucky to get .1kw difference.
Supercharged engines will benifit allot more if you allow it to breath easier.
Anything you can apply to an NA engine you can apply to an engine with forced induction and multiply the effects accordingly, of course the "Hack the crap out of the airbox mod" will have more of an effect on an L67 then it will on an Ecotec. But if the mod does nothing on an Ecotec, then it does SFA on an L67.

I will maintain that any improvement you feel will be entirely in your head.
The same as pod filters and K&N filters.

Hey Soop, Just to make sure i understand wat you are saying here. According to you the standard airbox with standard paper filter is just as gd as a bigger cai with a pod?
If that is true y does everyone have a cai and y are there dyno results showing some gd inprovements on L67's just from opening up the airbox and alowing it to breathe?
For eg mine. Wen i had the first tune done my car made a steady 135ish rwhp. took car home opened airbox and replaced cheap filter with k&n pod and a week later on same dyno car did 142 rwhp.(did not touch tune) If we go by your theory my car shoulda run the same hp but it didnt. And the other day i upgraded from 3" pipe and pod to a 4" and i think that the throttle is a little more sensitive/responsive.

Changing the intake pipe size from 3" to 4" on mine made it suck the same amount of air as the 3" with out the air filter - it was worth about 2rwkw but i stayed with the easier-to-use 3" piping, but as stated putting a hole in the air box does shit all.

Simple, Dyno's are tuning implements, not an acurate way to gauge improvements.
You can change what the dyno reads very easily, and 10kw is easily gained by putting the air temp sensor in a warmer location (even the ambient temp can change it!).

I'll maintain that it does nothing. The engine will still only use the air it can get. The heads an inlet manifold will always restrict what it can physically draw in. Not an airbox with an extra hole in it.
Even 4" tubing IMO just makes it harder for the engine to do its job. Try drinking a milk shake through an inch wide straw. That and the Throttle body is still going to restrict it.

Mm soop you are right in what you say but denser colder air is always better than less dense warmer. Improvements would be marginal still. I have had a good experience though with going a long way towards taking heat out of the entire inlet tract. Shielding about exhaust, manifold insulator, removal of EGR piping which pumps in a lot of heat. Cold air box. Inlet temps have dropped around 15 degrees at the plenum (measured using a thermal scanner after a 20 minute run). I feel the bottom end response is stronger.

Your 2 hole mod may do zip to help but it wont hurt either :P
