hi guys,
a while ago, i bought a so caled "Freshly rebuilt" v6 motor off ebay. Claimed to have new pistons, rings, welsch plugs etc. i am yet to confirm this as i have not pulled the motor down yet. every single gasket has been replaced on the motor.
after about 3 weeks of having the motor in my possession, i progressed to drop the motor into my vp. i had hooked up everything 100% and once started, there was a loud ticking noise, like metal to metal. just so happens, that the motor wasn't getting oil to to top. the passengers side rockers had oil but that's where i filled the oil up from so i am not sure if that side is getting oil. the drivers side rockers were dry as, not one drop of oil. i checked for oil pressure, pulled the filter off and cranked the engine and oil came out so i know i have pressure. i also changed the oil pressure switch but still no luck.
i have since pulled the motor out and its sitting on an engine stand and has been for the past 3 months until i pulled the cover off it today. i had a look at the block etc and the left hand side of the block is soaked in oil and the passengers side isn't. this got me thinking that maybe the headgasket on the drivers side has been put in backwards or something blocking the oil galleries not allowing oil to travel to the top?
im no engine builder but i am looking forward to your opinions/thoughts. i am going to start pulling the motor down some time this week and see whats happening inside.
thanx,
George
oil gets to the top via the pushrods will take a while to get up there and start squirting
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
you should of primed the lifters and oiled both sides of engine
didnt know i had to prime the lifters and both sides of the engine. can anyone explain why there is oil on the OUTSIDE of the block on one side and none on the other side though?
George
Might be best off pulling the heads down, and checking everything carefully as you re-asemble.
