Massaging a VR V6 throttle body

I had a VR V6 throttle body left over from my engine swap that I didn't instal at the time because it was too crappy and corroded

Tonight I finally started work on cleaning it up to fit to the VN, it's been one of those things I've been meaning to get around to doing for some time. Just because I felt like documenting it, I thought I'd take some photographs along the way.

Here's what I started with:



I decided to do a quick tidy up to the two ridges near the butterfly:





At this stage the whole lot looked like this:



I decided I wasn't happy with the leading edge of the throttle body, how big and blocky it was. It seemed a waste to get rid of those tiny ridges inside and leave this one HUGE one so I got stuck in with a grinder, a few files, and some sandpaper and came up with this:





Now the whole lot looked like this:

Now that I was happy with the finish in the business part of the assembly, it was time to get it looking half decent:

now you need to thin the throttle shaft, countersink the the holes for the screws and knife edge the butterfly. don't forget to loctite the screws in after as there are only a couple threads holding em in when every thing has been slimmed down

I was considering slimming the shaft and knife edging the butterfly on the leading edge but decided against it. It's going back together now, and looking pretty

Maybe if it were a real engine I'd worry about it

hahah sam you and you use of black and silver paint looks good wanna do mine too?

It's not that hard just grab some of the paints from your work and go nuts. It's like $2 a can, don't feel bad, you'll only use half a can or less in total. I didn't really prep it all, just washed it down with petrol beforehand.

Got a couple of pics of it installed I'll put up shortly, looks a million times better than the crusty old one.

Getting stuck into the cruise control instal now, and yes that's getting painted also

haha before u moved to gossie there was this shiney black vl with a bunch of natives in it. looked quite nice. after a month i saw it again, was a flat black instead of glossy. they had used a spray can and forgot to clear coat it.
another car in gossie was a vk lime green with a bodykit. bloke feel inlove with it. was until i pointed out they had painted it with a large paint brush . they had even painted the rubber

hahaha thats classic sam knows about what i was going to do a couple of weeks back i was going to paint my car gloss black with spray cans cuz i was sick of all the stone chips but deicided agaist cuz itll fit in with the 3 black shitty vns going around gosnells btw are you the guy that helped me and sam get the red vn from the house next to the computer place? totaly unrelated to the topic

why bare metal something that doesn't rust it's only fools pulling these cars back to bare metal that CAUSE them to rust in the first place! These things are galvanised hard core from the factory man just for your information. That's why VTs rust out so fast. They changed process completely somewhere inbetween.
